Clinton owned a Lincoln-Mercury business here in Lawton for many years. He has always ran Ford engines even today except if you notice in this photo in 1972 which JL Nash won the 1972 Lawton Championship with this Chevrolet engine.

That cage is really bent, who was driving?

Is the Edmonds car one of the Isaccs cars that Herb Copeland drove?

They still have great hamburgers, foot long chili cheese dogs, steak fingers and my favorite fish and chips with two extra tarter sauces. Wayne's has two locations now too! My favorite drive in was Charley's Drive Inn but sad to say it is gone now.

I was told by Herring this was the rectangular tube Edmunds, Isaac had. Story was Isaac was in a pinch for taxes at the moment, and I'm betting he was looking at getting a Parson chassis like Lies had to go with the other Edmunds in the stable.

Rumor here has it this car may still exist.

Several owners tried to run the Ford Engines, some more successful than others. Raymond Cates had the Ford with the most feature wins here in Tulsa. Harold Leep won 13 features here in 1969 and several elsewhere. It was a 289 inch engine, the limit was 305. That was the last good season that they had with the ford. The story was and I don't know how true this is but there engine was sent to Bud Moore's shop to be re-built after after the last race< I find this hard to belive but the story went that it was put in the wrong line and was painted and sent back without being re-built. I don't think a big shop like Bud's would ,make that kind of mistake. The engine was sold and the next car that it was in was a Edmonds copy that James Eubanks built and Jack Gary drove ib 1972. Jqack had a fair season, his best finish was second to Benny Tayler. Melvyn Jernigan had the engine in 1973. He had sod his 2 Bil T record cars and just ran part time with several drivers. Ray Crawford was driving the Plunkett that year, one night something broke on the plunkett catr in hot laps, Melvin had some body else in his car that night but they back out so Ray could drive it and he blew evrbody off that night. He started sevral rows back in the feature but the car, track and driver were on that nieht and he won bye almost half a lap. That is the last that i heard of that engine and it is the only one that was kept track of like a car. George armstrong had a good year in the Paul Cunningham #8 car in 1973 with a Ford Bill Thorton ran a Ford at Tulsa. Bill Sanders from Muskogee ran a Ford but I can't remember anybody but Norman trying a Ford at the big track and we only ran one race. From what i heard a Ford could make more power than a Chevy but it had several drawbacks, it was heavier, had a narrow power range, was harder to get parts for and cost more to build. I am probaly wrong about some of this so plesae correct me. I was told that Emmet Hahnhad a Ford in his first superrace. He was running with the rookie cars and his owner bought a high performance 289 Ford and put in the car and ran second in his first super race.

How much horespower did the Cates' deuce give away by running a 289 against the 305 chevy's?

It is a small world, Waynd Abshire's son was my Doctor here in Tulsa for almost 10 years, I had to change because of insurance reasons. like I said it is a small world

If it was a rectangle frame it would be the car that Herb won the Hutch Nats. in.
