I know this isnt really answering your questions, but I bought the Safety Solutions Hybrid Pro Rage and I love it. Doesnt push you forward and just is generally way more comfortable then the hans since you dont have a hard piece of carbon fiber/composite on each side of your neck under your belts. And for $595 its a pretty good deal.

If it helps at all, my daughter uses the R3. With the high impact seat pad that goes into the back of the seat she claims that she can not even tell that it is there. The pad is shaped like the devise so there is a slot available and the devise is not up against the seat. My understanding is that the R3 offers better protection from torsional forces then the Hans does, which is more designed for frontal impact. This is why we started with the R3. All I know is that Destini will not drive a race car without a head and neck restraining system. We are pleased with the R3, but I am sure that this has allot to do with personal preference as well. Good luck to you!

My hans would push my head foreward also, but before I tighten my belts I just hold my head so the hans is at the seat and then tighten the belts. Should solve your problem.
