1967 maybe or the 66 fair races. It appears to be the Angel's 76 now that we know Gene bought the Prather 97. All this car needed was Henry's gold color. That is how low budget Henry was. I have been told when Gene was killed and the proof is in the photo. But he was killed in 1966. I wonder if he raced the Prather 97 or was it Les Angel Jr. that bought it.

Was that your car or was it from Concordia? I bet there out there somewhere if you don't have any.
I've been looking for a car from the early 60's late 50's Yellow and black #X-15. It was my father's car from Salina. I wasn't raised by him but it would something I vaguely remember about his racing days.

The #77 was my car that I built at Funk aircraft here in Salina.I have very few photos of the car.

I noticed in these photos some have grooved tires and some are running a regular street tire. Man we have come along way baby. For around here this was the transition years or year maybe. I think the year before we actually had stock cars racing with modified jalopies. I noticed in the time trials Dick Massey was listed in #99 and Jerry Collins was in a #51. I can remember today the blue #51. Jerry drove. Dick's was a red & white #99. Those were the hot drivers in the mid 60's. Back then at Mohawk the high point drivers started at the tail end. I can still remember them working there way to the front in 20 laps. I think Dick went on to tour with one of the auto thrill shows

I knew that was a Salina area car but the memory banks would not bring it up, LOL. the 41 and 31 were they not team type cars. with Roger and Leon. Were they Schippert cars?

I do not know who that is standing next to the 41 but the rule has always been you do not have fun racing unless you get dirty--He is certainly having fun but the smile indicates a certain lack of enthusiasm.

I like this post as it is when my dad was heavely into racing and I enjoyed seeing him so happy. (Vernon Schrater). Both dad and John Kunzelman have passed away.

This car is still around it ran with the KAR at Dodge City, looks just like this still with 40 year old dirt on it. I do not have a name for it

I wonder if this car handled as good as it looked? To me , this is the perfect case for the 'homebuilt racecar'. A man builds it himself, but the car and circumstances have a big hand in how it's completed.
Still in the end, there's an almost spiritual connection between the driver and the car . It's even better when you win races.
I know everybody had to build their own cars, but even in this group, this car looks like a bottle rocket! May not have lasted long, but I'll bet it was fast while it did!
