I agree with Stan. I grew up going to the IMCA races every September at the Nebraska State Fairgrounds. Now, the State Fair has moved to another city and no more ANYHING at the fairgrounds, let alone racing.
I wish nothing but the best to Jackson, no matter who is running it/owning it. We need all of the facilities that we can get.
I am lucky enough to work at one of the best tracks
anywhere.

I'm hoping that they leave it as a half mile. All we have up in my neck of the woods is a bunch of 3/8's and a couple quarter miles. I grew up watching racing at the now defunct North Starr Speedway and I actually went there more when it was still called Twin City. I like all size tracks, they all have their unique qualities and challenges but there aren't many half miles left anymore. I can understand from a racer's standpoint that they work over engines and the crashes tear up more stuff but I still have a weakness for the big tracks and at 210 miles Jackson has been a doable deal a couple times a year.

I am curious as to why everyone thinks that this is a good idea? It seems like many of the racetracks that have closed recently are private, where places like Chico, Knoxville, are public facilities. Is there anything from saying that after 3 years of losing money, that Mr Quiring wouldn't shutter the place?

You post a valid question, but if you think Mr. Quiring is gunna spent the time & money to buy Jackson Speedway & than after 3 years he is gunna "shutter the place" U are wrong!

He might not shutter it, but you might see your weekly show go away and it be nothing buy a "specials" track a couple of times a year. I think his involvement is great, but there is no reason that the fairboard can't protect its' interest and offer him a long term lease. Once land is sold, the previous owner typically has no recourse. Unless the fairboard is drawing up some crazy document which requires 15 races per year for 100+years or they immediately have the track returned. However, Tod is too good of a businessman with attorneys who won't agree to some sort of deal like that. I am sure his intentions are good, but if his interests wane, the money flow shuts off ect, then what happens to the speedway? I hear about improvements and specials, but none of these are items that would require a sale in order for Tod to promote them and financially benefit from them. He could easily get a 20 year lease and make whatever decisions he wants(including a 3/8, which basically means the track is "Spencer Fairground...North"?) But once it is sold, he gets to do WHATEVER he wants, and that includes shuttering it.
Be careful for what you wish for, because Jackson has long been part of the public. Once private, Tod can do what he wants. If that means 2 big specials a year and no races any other time, then that is what he gets. I hope the county commissioners are taking a good look in the mirror and understand the POTENTIAL repercussions.
