That's a link to IBSLAKN's website with a story about the "possible" sale.
I am lucky enough to work at one of the best tracks

That would be so cool. Jackson is a huge sprint track and the best sprint car racing is on high banked small ovals, not 1/2 miles. Deer Creek is a brilliant example, whenever they put on a sprint show they put asses in the seats.

I remember when they had the last WoO show there in 2010 and it was just awful. Wreck after wreck. Still fun to see the top guys in my backyard but there was way too many wrecks, a 3/8th track would be awesome. There aren't many small tracks in this area. Redwood, Fairmont etc. Lets get some variety.

Considering that Jackson Speedway is on the Jackson County Fairgrounds and owned by the county I'd have to see it to believe it.
I wish he'd buy Huset's already and turn that joint into what it could be.
Also, for anyone that wants to "fix" the sprint car racing at Jackson all you need to do is put a wall around turns 1 & 2 , widen it out and do some dirt work to get the bowl out of it so it is like what 3 & 4 are.
The racing at the west end of the track is good, the racing at the east end is terrible if you can even call it racing.

This could be a good deal for the Jackson Speedway. I hope the county commisioners/fairboard find a way to work with Big Game.
It's not often that you find people who are willing and able to make a significant investment in our local race track facilities.
I think Jon's speciality has been on the promotional side. He has come up with some creative ways to attract fans and I hope that the surrounding communities continue to support the track.
Unfortunately, the track surface does need some attention. I think Jon recognises the need for improvement, but probably lacks the funds/support needed to address. The track surface is one area that a partnership with Big Game would hopefully address. Per Jon's press, it sounds like the dirt work is one of their targets.
Good luck to both Jon and Big Game; the potential sale sounds like a win/win situation!

Fair board to explore sale of race track Nov. 10, 2011
JACKSON - The Jackson County Fair Board Wednesday night unanimously approved a motion recommending that the county commission continue to pursue looking into a proposal to sell Jackson Speedway to a private individual.
The county's racing committee approved a similar recommendation last week.
Tod Quiring of Windom has inquired about the possibility of buying Jackson Speedway.
Current promoter Jon McCorkell would serve as manager and might also be a small equity owner.
If the track is going to be sold, the final decision would be made by the Jackson County Commission since the county is the owner of the property.
McCorkell gave a presentation of the proposal to the fair board. Quiring was unable to attend the meeting.
McCorkell told KKOJ.com the proposal to purchase would include the race track and parking lot, not the fairgrounds.
Discussions regarding the sale of the race track are in their infancy. McCorkell said Quiring’s plans would include expansion of the speedway facilities.
The sale of the race track to a private individual may ensure the future of racing in Jackson. McCorkell said economic conditions in recent years have been challenging for many tracks in the area.
There were some questions by fair board members as to of how much of the parking lot area would be included in a possible sale. Some members said if there was ever any expansion of facilities for the fair, it would be good for the fair board and county to maintain control of that property.
McCorkell said the proposal is just in the beginning discussion stages and those details can be discussed.
Following the presentation, the fair board unanimously approved a motion recommending the county commission pursue the proposal.
Fair Board President Mike Stade said the proposal is worth looking at. He said he personally thinks the proposal is a good idea.

I am curious as to why everyone thinks that this is a good idea? It seems like many of the racetracks that have closed recently are private, where places like Chico, Knoxville, are public facilities. Is there anything from saying that after 3 years of losing money, that Mr Quiring wouldn't shutter the place?

I think it's a good idea just based off of how good the Big Game Shootout was this year. If Big Game wants to own as well as pump money into the track, that can bring nothing but good things. Maybe they will get a yearly Outlaw show like Husets. If it goes under, you know the county will buy it back. The track has too much history to just not exist. As long as there is Sprint Car racing in Southern Minnesota, there will be Jackson Speedway.

Too big to fail?
Careful.
Remember Ascot Speedway.
It was kind of a big deal.
It could be a good thing, but nothing lasts forever...

Does anyone know a reason why this wouldn't be the best thing that could happen for Jackson Speedway? I cant think of one. High banked 3/8 bullring? Hell yeah!! And sprints cars back at Fairmont Speedway again??

I grew up three blocks from a half mile track in Minnesota that had "too much history to just not exist". You've probably heard of the Minnesota State Fairgrounds Speedway if you live anywhere near there. No dirt track is assured of it's continued existence regardless of who owns or is managing the place. Jackson seems to have been doing alright the past few years after some rocky times. I don't get down there much anymore but I hope they continue to be successful. In this economy the bar for success is basically to stay ahead of the bill collectors and keep the joint open.
