Talked with John Webb, new owner and promoter at Southern Oklahoma Speedway (formally Lake Country Speedway) in Ardmore a week ago Friday and he is very interested in running you champ sprint drivers one Saturday night a month. Would you be interested in this? Would you fans be interested in this?
This is something he is commited to and would be once a month. Please vote above to give some idea if there is interest,
Thank you.

Which night (Fri vs Sat), and does he have a pay schedule in mind? I'd be interested under the right circumstances.

Guess I could have read the post instead of skimming it... Sorry about that. It looks like it depends on pay. If he's going against Lawton he'd have to pay more than Lawton (they pay $600 to win and $100 to start) because they have some pretty loyal weekly cars.

only way I'd support it is if it were once a month - great purse - and on a FRIDAY night.
Not sure why ardmore would run saturdays anyway. run friday and pick up cars from Ada and Lawton (possibly). But whereas I'm not always the biggest fan of lawtons actual racetrack - they have the best attended show. lots of cars. this idea just sounds like a way to water that down. At best it would draw about 5-7 cars away from Lawton that one particular night. and maybe a few more from okc area. that's not a show.
Get 16+ then maybe. but here we are again of a perfect example of tracks needing to work together! actual communication between promoters and not stupid polls that will be lucky to get 14 votes (a joke - no way it would represent anything).
Dont mean to insult your poll david - but better things could come from the two track promoters talking to each other. especially if Lanny and family may not be interested in having OCRS back (each show there was a debacle --- which actually the ocrs show at ardmore was the worst show i saw this year so maybe these paragraphs aren't worth my time lol).
Just sayin' more could be accomplished if the two tracks actually talked and worked something out - maybe put some money into it as well. sky is the limit if this is done through the proper channels

I thought the first show of the year at Lawton was very good. Cobb passed a lot of good cars to win, In fact I saw 3 other OCRS shows and the Lawton show was the best. Ada shows were not good, one lane track.

The early show at Lawton was the only OCRS show I got to attend this year and I thought the race was pretty good. Much closer to home for me, so no Ardmore on Sat nights.

Lawton is currently working on the schedule and last I heard are trying to get an OCRS show scheduled.
Also they are going to rotate classes next year with each class being off one Saturday night a month, nights with the Champ Sprints not running there will be and ASCS Sooner or OCRS show scheduled.

I won't go back to Ardmore for the world of Outlaws! Until they can put a show together that doesn't go until 1 in the morning anyway. I won't drive 80 miles to spend 7 hours at a race track to watch 40 cars. A few years ago I drove over there every week to watch when Lawton is only 30 miles but it is just not worth the effort or money anymore.
Can I change my name to ModifiedFanRob?

Webb and his group did a fantastic job for rookie track owners/promoters. Most tracks ran late on a regular basis this past summer due to the drought. The late nights we had, the promoters were doing everything they could to provide the best racing surface possible.
Southern Oklahoma Speedway would run the Champ division on their one night a month off from Lawton, to prevent any schedule conflict.
Guess I don't get it....a guy is trying to give us a track to race, or a place to come watch sprint cars and people get on here and complain???
If you didn't make it out to Ardmore towards the end of the season, or driven past it recently....you're missing out. Becoming a real nice facility!

I think the previous posts were opinions. We state our opinions and get accused of complaining? That is our right, last I checked. The races take far too long to run. The times I have been to Ardmore ( Ada also ) are always they same, late late nights! I would not return either. Until there is a proven track record of getting the races done by 11 pm there is no need to go. Ada will at least run the sprints so we can load up and leave. To stay and watch 7 pure stocks run a 20 lap feature with multiple yellows is just not worth it. We were spoiled by OKC, curfew and time limits on races
turned out to be really good ideas.

Cheese, the modifieds and sport mods, Ardmore paid as good as Lawton and better than Ada and Meeker.
sprintcrewman, sorry I took a few opinions as complaints...that's just how I interpreted it...
John, Joe, and crew worked their tails off to get the show started on time and completed in a reasonable time frame. The last 2 or 3 nights at Ardmore our mains were over, cars loaded up, envelopes picked up at the pay window, and breakfast ordered at IHOP or Dennys before midnight! (on I-35 before 11:00 once)

Gotcha. The only reason I ask is because I know what the others are thinking. It's great that he wants to give us somewhere else to race, but I don't want him to put on a show and only have 5 cars. I know that as a sprint car driver it is almost impossible to keep an operation afloat traveling these distances and only getting $400 or $600 a night. Why do you think everyones selling out? It's getting to the point that you can't cover your night even if you win (especially at $400). Tires are $200/piece and are legitametly good for 1 heat cycle. Sure you can grind them and get to new rubber again, but the oils gone out of them. You might be able to grind them 3 or 4 times and still have a tire worth crap, but 3 or 4 heat cycles is a 2 heats and 2 features. I'm not picking on the tire situation, it was just easy to explain. Pitpasses are high, motors are high, components are high, it's all high, even diesel. Before I catch any heat about only running tires 3 or 4 times know this, I bought 3 tires this year, the rest of my tires are a couple of years old as that's the only way that I can afford to race.
I want everyone to know that I'm not complaining about MY situation, it's sprint car racing in Oklahoma as a whole. I know and talk to a lot of sprint car drivers, and I know that we aren't in this deal to make money, but we raced for $1,000 to win 10 years ago, and everything was way cheaper. I understand that we're getting paid less because none of these places can pull in the amount of fans that the fairgrounds could (maybe with a little old timey promoting they could). It's just tough, but again I don't want him to put on a show and get hosed. Everyone is working their hardest to keep what we love alive around here, but I'm not so sure we're going to be able to do it.
I know that someone will get on here and say that OCRS pays $1000 to win in order to promote the series. This isn't about OCRS. In order to run OCRS I'd have to buy new tires every night and get a lot more spare parts to run their schedule. OCRS is built for Tulsa guys, so most of the races are North or East of Tulsa. That's not a slight on anyone, it was started for Tulsa guys and most of the cars and drivers are from that part of the state. The races in this part of the state are very well attended, which proves that more pay = more cars = more fans.

I don't post much more on here anymore, but felt the need to say this Sprint Car Owner sees Cheese's statement full of wisdom and knowledge, well said Brandon.
With gas headed back up again and predictions of $4 Gal. gas by next Spring, prolly gonna get worse before it gets better and like Cheese said will it (Local Racing) be able to survive?

Brandon hit the ball out of the park on his last post. I agree with everything he has said.

in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he
stands at times of challenge and controversy."

I am pretty sure Mr. Webb reads this and I just posted it on my own accord. Contructive critizism and ideas could go along way. At least somebody is stepping up to the plate to give racers another track to run on once a month.

Here we go "again", Brandon has stated it perfectly, but it still all goes back to Promoters working together and Promoters promoting an event. Led Zepplin, Bon Jovi, and Blake Shelton did not get to where they are without Promotion.
A measly post on Facebook or Racing sites does not reach a broad audience, although it does reach most racers, it does not fill the grandstands nor does it pay the bills at the track. It also does not bring in new interest to our sport.
