Weld Wheels Heat (10 Laps) Top-5 Transfer to Feature 1. Travis Whitney [6]; 2. Steve Meyer [1]; 3. Kim Mock [5]; 4. Tommy Sexton [3]; 5. David O’Neal [7]; 6. Bill Wirth [8]; 7. Wayne Modjeski [9]; DNF-Patrick Haynes [2]; DNF-Andy Hunt [4].
Start: Meyer and Haynes bounce wheels off each other, Haynes checks up and a few others behind him ease into turn 1 and out of turn 2. Haynes, Whitney, O’Neal and Hunt bump nerfs off each other down the back stretch with the ending result of Haynes and Hunt tumbling into the entrance of the high side of turn 3. Both drivers were Ok. Haynes was done for the night. Move Whitney to the outside of the front row and our season point leaders along side each other into turn 1 with Whitney taking the lead out of turn 2 on the high side. By Lap-3 the field was settled as O’Neal and Wirth were maybe a few feet apart. Modjeski is lapped fodder around 7 go-round.
MPD Race Products Heat 1. Brian Kristan [2]; 2. John Haeni [5]; 3. Billy Warren [1]; 4. Joe Symoens [4]; 5. Mike Reinke [3]; 6. Scott Biertzer [6]; 7. Jason Johnson [9]; 8. Russel Borland [8]; DNF-Mike Kertscher [7].
Kristan with the lead at the drop of the green and ran and hid. Lap-3: Haeni is up to 4th out of turn 2. Lap-4: Kertscher smoke from the engine out of turn 4 and coasts into the infield. He was done for the night. The mid-way battle for 2rd was nice between Warren, Haeni and Symoens. Lap-6: Haeni finally takes 2rd out of turn 2.
Lane Automotive Heat 1. Donny Goeden [1]; 2. Billy Hafemann [2]; 3. Scott Young [4]; 4. Scotty Neitzel [6]; 5. Ty Bartz [3]; 6. Dave Uttech [5]; 7. Scott Uttech [8]; 8. Kurt Davis [7]; 9. Cainen Riemann [9].
Goeden lead the distance. Around Lap-3: Davis scrubs the wall off turn 2 and loses a right rear. In and out of the work area and he tags the tail. Neitzel and D. Uttech had a good scrum going for the transfer spot. Restart: Young stumbles out of turn 2 allows Bartz to race by. Next time around, Young regains composure and retakes his 3rd spot as Neitzel takes Bartz around Lap-8 out of turn 2.
Behling Racing Equipment B Feature (15 Laps) Top-7 Transfer. 1. Scott Biertzer [1]; 2. Bill Wirth [4]; 3. Jason Johnson [8]; 4. Kurt Davis [5]; 5. Scott Uttech [6]; 6. Wayne Modjeski [9]; 7. Russel Borland [7]; 8. Andy Hunt [3]; 9. Cainen Riemann [10]; DNF-Dave Uttech [2]. DNS-Mike Kertscher, DNS-Patrick Haynes.
Biertzer was off and leading at the start and the distance. Around Lap-2: Johnson takes 5th using the low line through 3-4 from S. Uttech. Lap-7: Yellow flag as D. Uttech suffers form a busted wheel off turn 2 and stalls. Into the work area and back out, but ducks infield about a lap after the restart. Lap-11: Hunt falls from an assured transfer spot back to 7th out of turn 4 and Borland will earn a Feature spot when he takes the position like 2 laps later.
Duel at the Dam I A Feature (30 Laps) 1. Donny Goeden [5] $2,500; 2. Mike Reinke [7]; 3. Travis Whitney [4]; 4. Scott Young [9]; 5. Jason Johnson [22]; 6. Scotty Neitzel [3]; 7. Billy Hafemann [13]; 8. Steve Meyer [14]; 9. Brian Kristan [6]; 10. David O’Neal [16]; 11. Ty Bartz [12]; 12. Joe Symoens [10]; 13. Bill Wirth [18]; 14. Wayne Modjeski [21]; DNF-15. Billy Warren [15]; DNF-16. Scott Uttech [20]; DNF-17. Tommy Sexton [8]; DNF-18. Scott Biertzer [11]; DNF-19. Russel Borland [19]; DNF-20. Kurt Davis [17]; DNF-21. John Haeni [1]; DNF-22. Kim Mock [2]. Alternate: Andy Hunt. Lap leaders: John Haeni 1, Scotty Neitzel 2-8, Donny Goeden 9-30.
Haeni leads Mock on the first lap around and then disaster. He catches a rut in the middle of turns 1-2 and nearly spins out. Mock almost missed the slowed Haeni but tags a wheel and flips. Mock was Ok. Haeni into the work area, but nothing came of it. Kristan stopped in the work area as well and restarts. Front row is done for the night. Biertzer with a good start as he will restart 6th. Neitzel leads Whitney, Goeden and Sexton to the line and by Lap-5 slower traffic will factor on the front stretch. Davis calls it a night on Lap-6 as Borland casually slides off the raceway off the front stretch into the infield, done. Lap-9: Heavy traffic and Goeden takes the lead out of turn 4. Lap-12: Whitney takes Neitzel for 2nd on the front stretch. As Reinke is about to send Neitzel back another position on Lap-13: Red flag is out as Biertzer and Sexton tangle out of turn 4 with both flipping. Both are Ok. Restart running order: Goeden, Whitney, Neitzel, Reinke, Young, Meyer, Hafemann, Johnson (from 22nd) (S. Uttech), Bartz, Symoens in the Top-10. Warren, O’Neal, Wirth, Kristan, and Modjeski given the Lucky Pass to get back on the lead lap. Lap-14: Reinke made quick disposal of Neitzel as Young is also around Neitzel for 4th soon after out of turn 4. Rookie Hafemann takes the season point leader Meyer for 6th. Lap-18: Traffic, Reinke shows a broken front wing mount. Lap-23: Heavy traffic, Goeden leads Whitney and Reinke as the slower traffic of Symoens keeps Goeden within sights. Lap-25: Heavy traffic, Johnson is running very solidly in the Top-10 from starting last and I think is right behind Neitzel. Lap-27: S. Uttech and Warren are done. Lap-28: Reinke powers around Whitney on the high side of turn 2 and is making a charge towards Goeden. Lap-30: Goeden will win his 3rd out of the last 4 IRA Features as Reinke was closing fast. Goeden takes a Kulwicki victory lap and again, busts out his top wing celebration from atop the cage. Victory lane interview not broadcast.
Jason Johnson from last to a Top-5, Wow!
Rookie Contender Billy Hafemann with an impressive run and might move up a spot in season points to 9th as S. Uttech suffers the DNF.
Such a great season start for former driver and Goeden car owner Bob Walldan in celebration of his 50 years in racing with some really strong runs and the wins this early in the season. Would bet it wipes out last weeks disappointing DNF in Minnesota.
Next IRA Show: Friday, June 8th at the Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway.
