I have witnessed over the last few years where the "Tow" vehicle has done more damage towing a car back to the pits than the crash caused.
Do these guy's just not give a rats ass ?....or are the being told by the promoter to "drag the junk off" so we can go?... or is it they have no real training how to properly lift and remove a damaged Race Car. (all classes included)
Maybe I'm asking some dumb questions.....But Damn'it, I have had , and I have seen competitors all deal with the same issue.
Maybe the problem could be solved by having an "Actual Tow Truck". John Deer makes a fine "tractor", Polaris makes a fine "ATV", but neither of these company's make a Tow Truck.

Remeber none of these guys get paid they buy there own truck and gas and probably get a free hot dog for volunteering there services ,,don't talk shit bout the push truck n tow truck drivers unless you can buy one maintain one and spend all your Saturdays volunteering your services and do a better job ,sprintcar races would be pretty long and boring if all the trucks that got bitched at by ungrateful drivers and fans quit showing up

B.S.
All these so called volunteers you speak of - do any of them have as much money and time invested into racing as the teams and tracks they get to sponge off?
I know sponge off is a harsh phrase. Just trying to make a point. When was the last time a tow truck drivers life and livelihood was on the line at a race track? As for none of these guys get paid..........I beg to differ, and you and I interact with the same crowd.

I agree with you! Most of the guys I know who drive tow truck for the local track, do it for nothing or close to nothing. Don't end up on the hook if you don't like the way the tow truck picks you up. These are the same jackasses that complain about volunteer fireman, little league coaches, and any other person who donates their time and resources to help out around the community.
By the way, the promoter wanting the "junk off the track" to get the show rolling for the fans? How dare the promoter try to cater to the people paying the bills!!

yes that is exactly how it is. the promoter at the track i drive a tow truck at says to hurry up and get that car off the track, and he is correct. we don't get paid. we volunteer our time and if u don't like that way that we take cars off the track, build your own and tow your own car, or find u a driver that don't crash everynight and u got nothing to bitch about. STFU!

Oh cry me a f'ing river. It's not always a crashed car that ends up on the hook and then gets a bumper or wing torn off.
But we'll use your thesis..........don't like people complaining about torn up equipment? Do your job properly.
BTW - FYI: close to nothing is still not nothing. Feel undervalued? take it up with your boss.

The problem is with in-experienced tow truck drivers. The ones that know what they are doing, and have the proper equipment do a good job. The ones that do not know what they are doing cause the most problems.
The overly large tow trucks can cause just as many problems as the undersized. How many times have you seen a tow truck hook up to a car, raise the front end up to much, and then drag the car to the pits on the back bumper?

HAHA! You don't know how much I would endorse that idea.
No quads or mules either. Each team unhook their trailer and push their own car. Problems solved.

It's been my experience that the best push/tow truck drivers are ones who've either had a race car themselves or have helped worked on a car before. They understand how much money and time it takes to put a car on the track. We've been on both ends. Had guys who acted as if they hated being there and weren't at all interested in helping us out and also had guys who took better care of our equipment than we might have. Obviously sprint cars need the push trucks. But without the sprint cars none of us would be there. It's expensive enough just to get a car to the track without having unnecessary damage caused by someone who doesn't care. I would just ask all of them to do one thing. Please treat the cars as if they were you're own. I doubt you'd want your car yanked around doing even more damage than what's already been done. A little consideration would be greatly appreciated by everyone. Thanks.

I've listen to one promotor YELL at push/tow trucks and it isnt pretty; they work there but's off !
Heck those guy's/gals "MIGHT" get fuel money for the night - but thats it
It's a tough job when you have a head set/radio on and having a promotor yelling in your ear and trying to hear what the corner workers are trying to tell you when your clearing a wreck on the track

Most driver's just walk away after a crash. If they are worried about damage they need to stay and help.

There is no telling how many fuel cells have almost had a hole drug in the bottom of them from tow trucks that think they have to raise the front end 4' off the ground. I know I have had 2.

i dont think its the operators , i think its that the booms on tow trucks are not long enough. all tracks have a gradall ,skytrack pettibone , to get cars off the walls or out of tight spots if you use them as hooks they will never damage equipment . with the short booms on tow trucks the cars swing into the tow truck .
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

Job? Most of the people who volunteer their time driving tow trucks and push trucks at a race track have a job and it isn't hauling sprint cars off of a race track. They work somewhere else Monday thru Friday. That is something they do to help a sport they love. That isn't their job. Nice attitude. And i agree with a couple of the other posters. A lot of the drivers don't even care enough about the cars and pout and walk away. And a tow truck driver making enough to cover his fuel cost is supposed to baby his car? I would assume most drivers don't think the truck drivers are idiots, but i will tell you this, if i did this at my local track and one driver treated me like a moron, i would drop his car on the ground and leave the track never to return again.
