Still on the fence?

First, on Tuesday, entry fee goes to $300. Wednesday, it's $400! A mulligan will cost you $100 more and must be paid at the time you enter.

I've heard of some folks passing this one up for far less and it's got me scratching my head as to how they can do that. Maybe you need to take a second look. At least hear me out. Here's a few points to consider...

-- The track is one of the best you'll race on this year. 'The Hummer' is famous for three-wide Modified racing and your percentage of 'tearing up stuff' is much lower there than some of the other places running. Here's one from last month's Hunt race that Hughes wins from the 6th row: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRYjw5d0RYU

-- They only had about 70 entries last I heard. That gets them to a D-main. That's it. There's NOT going to be any purse cutting either so don't buy into any of that nonsense. D main pays $500 to start and at least 78 cars are getting that much. AGAIN -- At least 78 cars are getting $500 or more at THIS race! E-main pays $450 to start and that goes all the way to 96 cars! F main? $400 to start and to fill up an F main it'll take 114 entries!

-- Most economical night to run I would assume to be Friday. That makes it a 2-day show if you choose Friday. When was the last time you had a 2-day show in range that paid $1500 to start the A-main and started 30 cars too? And $700 to start the B and $1000 to finish 13th in the B?

-- But Wednesday may be the easiest night to qualify right now. Out of that 70 cars, ONLY 30 so far are set to try Wednesday. And if you're going to be there Wednesday, you might as well buy that mulligan for $100 more just in case you have bad luck. You can get another shot on Thursday or Friday that way.

-- All three nights have an equal shot at the pole for $15,000 and at making this $1500 to start, 30-car A-main. No advantage to being there on Wednesday or Thursday over Friday unless they throw out their effort, use their mulligan and start over from scratch....and that works both ways. There were a couple guys at Deer Creek who would have been better off sticking with their Wednesday points but you know, hindsight is 20/20....

-- Scared of the big guns? Oh yea, they'll be there. Hughes, Shryock, Phillips, etc. Remember though, Brad Waits won the $20,000 at Deer Creek -- NOT any of the above nor Ryan Gustin either. Don't like racing against millionaires? I'd rather race them in a Modified than a Late Model or a Sprint Car. I think driver means more and hp means less in Modifieds -- especially when Humboldt gets slick -- than it does in those other classes. Think Gustin is all money? Think again. The Gressel team won ONE race in 2 years with a better than average Modified driver and the same equipment too (best money can buy) before Gustin got the seat. When he got the ride, he was driving an old chassis with a team his family owned and they kept racing against Hughes, Shryock, Phillips, etc. How are you going to get your next ride?

-- Don't like the spec engine spoiler rule? Well, first, study on it and read the rules before you listen to 'the talk' about it. It's an 8 inch spoiler. Same size as the average Late Model spoiler. It is NOT a SUPR-type 12-inch big blade. It's 3 inches bigger than the 5 inch spoiler Waits used to beat all those 8 inch spec-spoilers at Deer Creek with his non-spec open motor. Does that sound like it's unfair? I mean honestly, there were folks getting out run by Hughes and Shryock before they had this rule. That's not the reason why they're still good. Unlike SUPR and some of the other Late Model sanctions, you can't do work on the USMTS spec head and intake. It's an out-of-the-box and bolt it on deal. Some of the ridiculous hp numbers you're 'hearing' people say they make is just that. Better see a legal one dyno-ed before you buy any hp number. It's doing what it's designed to do: save money. They also have a package for the CT525 crate motor which also works and saves money. You don't have to fear either one. Just ask Brad Waits!

-- From what I've seen, spoilers make a better show for the fans! Less cautions & more side-by-side racing!!!

-- Location. 2 & 1/2 hours north of Tulsa. 3 hours west of Springfield, MO. 2 hours south of Kansas City. 2 hours east of Wichita. There are a lot of Modifieds in that range that should be entering this show! But even 5-6 hours away works. That brings in places like Lincoln, Omaha, much of Missouri including the St. Louis area, Batesville, Arkansas, Oklahoma City, etc. Even the DFW area is just 7 hours away.

-- Weather? Here's the latest from weather.com:

Wednesday October 19
Mostly sunny. Highs in the mid 50s and lows in the upper 20s.
Thursday October 20
Plenty of sun. Highs in the low 60s and lows in the upper 30s.
Friday October 21
Mostly sunny. Highs in the low 70s and lows in the mid 40s.
Saturday October 22
Abundant sunshine. Highs in the mid 70s and lows in the low 50s.

Rain on Monday, next system next Sunday-Monday. Starts off on the cold side on Wednesday but looks really nice for Friday-Saturday!

-- Still looking for a down side? The only one I can think of is competition. That's what we're all about, ain't it? It sure ain't the lack of a GREAT paydown. You really, really want to do it!!!

That would be a good pay back even for late models
