For Immediate Release
Kevin Bayer Wins Night One Of The Sooner Midget Nationals!!!
Kevin Bayer of Bixby, Oklahoma was the best of the 32 car midget field at I-44 Riverside Speedway for night one of the Sooner Midget Nationals…but only by a foot!
Alex Sewell of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma jumped out to an early lead from outside row one while Bayer maintained second, but Bayer started reeling him in on lap 7 and made the first pass for the lead on lap 11, but this was just the beginning of a multi-lap slide job interchange between the two! Luck would run out for Sewell as he would bring out a caution on lap 15 after slowing on the track. Bayer inherited the lead after the caution and would lead the last five laps, but not before 9th starting Brad Loyet powered his way to second place and would make a last lap, last corner slide job attempt that came up just inches short at the finish!!! Chett Gherke was third at the line, while Matt Sherrell and Gary Taylor rounded out the top five.
This is the second victory of the year for Bayer and his Jet Motorsports Spike/Chevy! Bayer earned $1000 for the victory along with $150 for being the highest finishing Eco-Tech!

Not only was it just a half car length at the line but there were multible lead changes throughout the race. It was a very great night of racing on a very racey track - even for the non-wing micros.
