Andy Gregg Rallies Back to 14th

PETERSEN MEDIA: For much of the race Friday night during the opening night of the Fall Nationals, Andy Gregg looked as if he hadn’t missed a beat since the recently completed Gold Cup Race of Champions. The early leader was caught up in a tangle on the 12th lap, and rallied back to a 14th place finish Friday night.

With 54 cars in the pit area, Gregg timed his 7 Industries/Autism Awareness/Wheel Vintiques entry in with the 16th fastest lap of the night putting him in the first heat race, which he proceeded to win going away.

The format for the weekend included a seven lap dash to set the first six rows of the feature, and the Placerville, CA native started on the pole and then walked away with the win putting his College Cyclery/Hot Rod Shop/Meyers and Son Drywall backed entry on the pole for the 30-lap feature event.

As the feature got underway, Gregg got the hole shot over fellow front row starter, Rico Abreu, and set a blistering pace.

Gregg continued to command the race early, as he entered lapped traffic by the sixth lap, as Shane Stewart began to press him for the top spot.

The duo diced through traffic and excited the crowd until a lapped car knocked Stewart off the track on the ninth lap bringing out a caution, and clearing the track for Gregg.

The race resumed with Willie Croft hot on Gregg’s tail as he rocketed out to the lead.

On the 12th lap, contact ensued between Gregg and Croft, sending Gregg spinning through the infield, but he was able to keep his Bret Ervin Racing machine under fire, and get back on the track, but in the 19th position.

Gregg would rebound and capture 14th as the checkered flag flew.

“Our car was awesome tonight, and a contender for the win,” explained Gregg. “Unfortunately we had an incident about halfway in the race while leading that cost us tonight.”

Andy and his Bret Ervin Racing team would like to thank 7industries.com, Ervin Sales Group, Wheel Vintiques, College Cyclery, The Hot Rod Shop, Autism Awareness, Guts Racing, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Jiffy-Tite, C&R Racing, Eagle Chassis, Meyer Motorsports, Hinchman Racing, and Bell for their support as they follow the 2011 King of the West Series.
