Sorry if this is a total faux pas, or if it seems like I'm pandering. There has been a resurgence in the effort to re-open Ernie Purcell Memorial Speedway in Grass Valley, Ca. I just thought I'd throw it out there that there is a Facebook group of people who are getting behind the idea, and figured it couldn't hurt to share the link here. http://www.facebook.com/groups/ovaltrackgrassvalley/ The support has blown up over the last couple weeks, and it seems like there is actually a legitimate possibility that some progress is being made. I'm sorry if this seems like spam. It's all in good spirits. I think we all want to see more racing opportunities, so I figured I'd do my part to let people know.

well I guess never say never - would definitely be nice to have a reason besides the fair to go to the Nevada County Fairgrounds again.

But what about the beloved Draft Horse Classic, which takes place in the arena that the track was leveled to build? *eye roll*

Actually, I shouldn't be so hard on the Draft Horse Classic. I mean, people enjoy it. It's not my cup of tea, necessarily. I just don't think leveling a race track and calling it a horse arena makes sense. They can co-exist. They did it before, they can do it again. Same with the destruction derby, the tuff trucks, etc.

If they can bring this place back and I really hope they do I would love to see it come back as a tri-oval. That place was really unique before they changed it before the end and I would love to see it something like the way it was back before the end of the 80's. It would be a cool addition to the race tracks we do have available - something a little tricky and unique.

With the dog leg, my dad swears you could go hammer down out of 3 and into 4 and carry that speed down the front stretch.
