Hi, we fly into US on the 25th Aug from UK to visit family and take in the Outlaw shows at Skagit. I notice though that there is a ASCS show at Grays Harbour on the 26th and 27th, any advice about this would be great. This will be a bonus to the trip if we can make this show.
Is there likely to be a good turn out of cars? Is the racing good? Is it worth the trip from Mercer Island? Dont think we will make the show on 26th as we will have just had a 15 hour flight!
Look forward to any help and advice. Thank you.

by all means make the show. this track is all about horsepower, plain and simple. try and sit in the stands coming out of four in the pits, the best.....enjoy the show..
Ascot was the greatest of all time..
West Capital wasn't half bad either..
Life is good...

If you can make both shows do it, youll get two different styles of racing. Grays Harbor tends to get slick and its a game of whos got the throttle control besides the ASCS car count is great and those guys can flat drive. Skagit is a little bit smaller but its more of a hammer down kinda race track. Have fun on your trip and enjoy some Washington racing!

The grays harbour show will probably be a far better show just won't have the big names but will be better racing on quite a bit better track ,skagit is wide open 1 lane racing usually with little or no passing ,make the Elma show you won't be disappointed

I also agree to try to make it to Elma, great facility. I would guess there could be 30 to 40 sprinters at Elma vs maybe 20 sprinters at Skagit for WoO. If 20 boys show at Skagit that would make 5 races per nite which just sucks for a $40 ticket. Better bang for the buck racing would be Elma!!!!!!!!!!!

Or you could go on down the road a bit more to Cottage Grove(in Oregon) for the outlaw show, and see some really good racing. Doubt you will be disappointed at any of the tracks.

M&G is right, Cottage Grove always has a great show. Plan on a little over 5 hours travel each way from Mercer Island.
Skagit is where you will find a pure sprint car atmosphere. The people in the stands and the people in the pits live and breathe sprint car racing. No bad seats anywhere. Some of the seats you prepare to get dirty. Plan on a little over an hour each way to travel.
Same for Elma. About 1.5 hours from Mercer Island. Grays Harbor ASCS show is almost always good. That weekend they also have non-wing sprints and midgets. I would not sit in the turn 4 pit stands as advised by NWFan. Too much flying debris and the only place at GHR that you will need goggles if the groove is high and track is dry. Anywhere in the upper main grandstands is a good seat. One piece of advice for Grays Harbor - bring something warm to wear even if temps in Seattle are warm. When the sun goes down, you will need your Winter clothes. Or buy a hoody from a team or the track! They'll appreciate it. OH, and PS: DO NOT SPEED ON THE HWY BETWEEN OLYMPIA AND ELMA. It is a money maker for the State.

Both the NWWT and ODSS will have cars running the Wingless show on 26th and 27th of August. There should be between 15 and 20 Wingless cars there.

Skagit will have more than 20 cars. A few of the Cali cars come in, Skagit brings about 10 locals and the Outlaws bring 14. You'll have 30.
Also agree about Cottage Grove. Tight quarter mile, really good action.

turn four is where the action is. and yes, if you are afraid of getting a "little" dust and wearing goggles, it's not for you! and, do the speed limit..have fun

Sammy is in for Skagit as per his schedule on his website. Also rumors are abound that the Wildchild will be there in the same car he ran for Dirt Cup. I would say there will be 30+. You figure Solwold, Barnes, Lutar plus the regular 410 guys.
Also bring the goggles if you want to see the a-main. Things get a tad bit dusty.

Wow, thanks for all the responses. Looks like we will make the trip to Grays Harbor.
Looking forward to Skagit, not seen 410's this year, missed my trips to Florida and Knoxville due to work and the economy! The dust wont be a problem, we travel prepared, although we are from England we try to get to see our fair share of tracks and races, seasoned sprint car addicts.
There is no better form of motorsport in the world.

skagit is my alltime favorite track with silver dollar running neck and neck for the lead. both bullrings with so much action you cannot see it all. dusty? prolly but what race track isn't? eldora for one is worse imo.
all the "heavy hitters" will be in attendance you can count on it.
for now the best kept secret in the nw is cottage grove. i see great things in store for that little bull ring.

They had 35 and 34 cars there for the 2010 shows. When I was there in 2009, both nights had 30+ cars.
