I know it's been said before, but this video exemplifies how awesome that safety crew is. No chaos, no head scratching, no tripping over each other. Great work.

Is it just the way the car is laying there, or is the chassis that bent up? What kind of chassis' does he run?

Gunner, thanks for sharing your videos from turns 1 & 2. Nice to see a ground level view and some of the detail on the safety crew's response. NO doubt they are among the best.
I don't know Austin's actual stats, but I'd say he's between 6'2" and 6'4" and around 240 lbs. That's a real ball park estimate based on standing near him in the pits a few times. I believe he played BBall in high school, and I think he may be playing in college too.
No surprise, mom Lorie was right there to take his helmet as he took it off. She's always in the pits.

That chassis was/is trash.
He hit the ground hard prior to coming into the video shot.
I think that he uses Maxim but not entirely sure.

Wow....it took the safety crew less than 5 seconds to get to the car once it stopped tumbling....they must have been sleeping on this one...(please note severe sarcasm before piling on). The safety crew at Knoxville is the best around, bar none. They deserve all of the props they get. The were Johnny-on-the-spot all week long.

Wow, I would have guessed it was destined for the scrap heap.
Any idea if he plans to be at Huset's Saturday/Sunday night?

Austin has his head screwed on, you can tell that by the way he got out of his car and walked away. He's already a bad ass racecar driver...hearing he has a college basket ball scholoship as well.
They reackon the standard of flagging at Knoxville has dropped in the last few years. The real problem is Austin has grown up and isn't in the HOF off turn two waving his flags anymore. I used to watch for his flags to see what was really going on....anyone remember that !

He stopped on second 11 and the safety crew had him back up right by 1:10. so about 59 seconds to take a bad wreck heap and have it on all 4's again.
Took only like 35 seconds for an officail crew member to already be putting down 'stay dry' to prevent a fuel fire. Knoxville is one hell of a fire crew.
Plus, what, I didn't count but there were HOW many..like 12 fire crew there all within a time frame of car stops at mark 11 and and by mark like 40 there are already 12 fire and 3 officials. Ofcourse those 1st 3 could get out really fast to the car because it was a start Red flag. They knew for a fact that no more cars were coming (IE wasn't spread out yet) Knoxville one of the best if NOT the best and faster responding safety crew for ANY type of race track in the US

Racers / crew members.....I'm curious if the safety crew or lack there of at a track determines if you will race a track?

Austin is going to play basketball at Grand View College in Des Moines. NAIA school. He was pretty good at SE Polk High School.

Not hating on him, 'cause he's a good kid..... but he came off the bench most of the time and avg'd less than 10 ppg for SE Polk HS. I'm not doubting his ability to wheel a sprint car though..... especially after last week! Hopefully he gets that Maxim rebuilt and has a strong finish to the season.

He did not come off the bench most of the time, he was a starter! His ppg are not what they should have been because of the way he was coached. His job was defence and he did it well. Watch some tapes. He can shut down anyone.
He will be back at Knoxville next week and starts basketball the 29th.

BigGMan
Austin is 6' 4" and 200lbs.
I would like to thank the safety crew at Knoxville, they are great. It does help me a bit knowing that my boys are in good hands at the racetrack. When they are all racing it can be hard on my nerves, but I would not want to be anywhere else on Saturday nights
