Monster Energy™ Sprint Series Hits Jacksvonville Friday/Mixes with IRA Sunday!

(Bill W) August 15, 2011 – The Monster Energy™ Sprint Car Series roars back into action this weekend with a pair of events. On Friday night, the series hits the banked ¼-mile bullring in Jacksonville, Illinois, and on Sunday, they take on the Interstate Racing Association (IRA) regulars in a clash for $3,000 in LaSalle, Illinois at the Bill Waite Jr. Memorial.

With Illinois Sprint Week in the rear-view mirror, the series looks ahead to the last seven dates on the calendar. Danny Smith, who emerged as Sprint Week champion, is expected to compete at Jacksonville on Friday night.

Jerrod Hull, who won at both Jacksonville and Macon Speedways during Sprint Week will be trying to pad his point lead with the series. Jimmy Hurley, who took the win at the Shepp's Speedway stop is currently second in the standings, just four markers ahead of third place, Robbie Standridge. Jim Moughan Jr. and Chris Urish round out the top five in points.

Two dates have seen two different winners at the Jacksonville Speedway this season. In addition to Hull's victory, Terry McCarl invaded for a popular win back in May. Hull's win came with a last lap pass of Smith in exciting fashion.

This will mark the series first visit to the LaSalle Speedway. Drivers will be gunning for $3,000 to win. The Bill Waite Jr. Memorial also pays $300 to start. Three-time and defending series champion, Billy Balog, leads the IRA into town. Mike Reinke, Scotty Neitzel, Scott Biertzer and Bill Warren complete the top five in points with the IRA.

Admission Friday at Jacksonville is $13 for Adults. Children 12 and under are FREE. Pit gates open at 4:45 p.m., with Grandstands opening at 5:00 p.m. Hot laps are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow.

On Sunday at LaSalle, Pit gates open at 1 p.m., with grandstands opening at 4p.m. Hot laps are scheduled for 6 with racing at 7. Admission for Adults is $18, high school students (with ID) is $5, and age 13 and under with paying adult—FREE. Individual skyboxes (seating for 15) and individual skyboxes may be reserved by contacting PACE Promotions (630 279-3006).

So does Sunday pay any MOWA points? Just curious how many guys will be there from MOWA. Hopefully a few MOWA guys come to the IRA show at Wimot on Saturday then back to Lasalle.

The short answer is yes, they are worth MOWA points.

It's my understanding that the two lowest point total races for drivers are eliminated in the season standings, so a driver could miss two races over the course of the season if they wish...

I would expect 12-15 from the MOWA area there on Sunday at minimum...

I've heard a few drivers talking about Wilmot too...
