USAC/CRA "LAST MAN STANDING DASH" RETURNS TO SANTA MARIA SATURDAY
By Lance Jennings

SANTA MARIA, CA – AUGUST 11, 2011... Back by popular demand, Santa Maria Speedway Promoter Chris Kearns and Rugged Radios of San Luis Obispo have announced the return of the "Last Man Standing Dash" this Saturday with the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series.

The format for the special $1000 winner-take-all event is simple. The top 4 qualifiers that transfer out of the heat races are eligible to compete. The drivers will pick a pill for their starting position in a 4 car / 4-lap dash. Once completed, the last place finisher is eliminated and there will be a short break for crews to make adjustments. The segment winner will then draw an invert pill for their starting spot.

The 3 remaining cars will battle in a 3-lap shootout. The third place car will be retired and there will be another pit stop break for crews to make changes. The winner of the 3-lap segment will draw another pill for their starting position. The final round will have the two remaining drivers compete in a 2-lap sprint. The winner will claim the $1000 top prize.

Nic Faas of Huntington Beach has won the two previous "Last Man Standing Dashes," with victories coming June 18th at Santa Maria and July 30th at Perris. He will have to contend with a talented roster including 3-time series champion Mike Spencer, Matt Mitchell, "Dynamite" David Cardey, "Super" Rickie Gaunt, "The Ripper" Rip Williams, "Showtime" Danny Sheridan, "The Kruser" Cory Kruseman, and many more.

Local 360 iron-block powered Sprint Cars are welcome to race with USAC/CRA. The 360s can run their local approved tires (all four corners must be Hoosier), but must meet series tech standards and race track muffler rules. The Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series does not have an entry fee or charge for transponders, but drivers must have one-way radios. In addition, the series is offering a bonus to the highest finishing 360 team. To be eligible for the $200 cash award from USAC and 20 gallons of methanol from So-Cal Performance, the owner or driver must have a current USAC membership.

Santa Maria Speedway is located 1/4-mile north of the 101/166 interchange at 1900 Hutton Road in Nipomo, California. Joining the showcase will be the Toste Construction Mini Stocks and Vintage Sprints. The spectator gates will open at 4:00pm, time trials will start at 5:00pm, with racing set begin at "The West Coast's Best Short Track" at 6:00pm. Adult tickets are $20, Senior, Military, and Student tickets (13-17) are $18, Kids tickets (6-12) are $6, and Children’s tickets (5 and under) are FREE. For more event information, visit the track’s website at www.racesantamariaspeedway.com or call (805) 922-2232.

The Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series would like to thank Hoosier Tire, Circle Track Performance, Competition Suspension Inc., DJ Safety, Donovan Engineering, Electro Tech Powder Coating, Extreme Mufflers, Hilborn Fuel Injection, Huntington Beach Glass & Mirror, Keizer Wheels, Rod End Supply, Saldana Racing Products, Sander Engineering, and So-Cal Performance for their support. last man standing is great . what i think is not great is paying an extra 1000 to the winner of that race.winning the pole should be enough. the 1000 needs to be spread into the field payout. usac-cra standard payout is almost 1/2 of what scra was until you get to about the top 3. the little guys spend money to get to the races and its sure nice when you make the main and ALMOST break even. right now a top 10 will barely pay for 5 guys at the track. most teams have at least 4 and most of them have to pay their owne way in. fuel and tires are another story..i know these guys dont do this to make money but why was it better when glen howard (a man who did more for non-wing sprint car racing in so-cal than most)was running scra??i know i will hear economy this and car count that but really??

Last time I criticized this race, I got flamed all to hell. So be careful. Does the winner of this race now get the pole for the feature too? Is this series going to follow any USAC rules? Or is it typical make it up as we go like the rest of the tracks and series the series administrator is associated with?

once upon a time the racers had a voice , the people that ran the club cared deeply , and the car counts were amazing , 50 plus cars per race. now the racers have no say , no representation , and , are at the mercy of people they really dont even know. ( usac is not based in so-cal ) i guess we are just lucky to be clowns paying to be in the circus..what would be nice for some is to be able to run at perris for a track championship 360 or 410 , something like ventura.. just thinkin , and i know quite well some will disagree. i know i have not been posting on this board long , but dont confuse that with my current involvement and my past involvement in non wing sprint car racing.

I'm almost alway's confused, ask anyone. So could you please maybe just give ma a hint about what involvement's they might be, so I can continue to take things out of context as usual.

I thought this getting "national exposure" stuff was way overrated too.

Bitch, whine, complain, my coffee is too hot, my coffee is too cold, my prune juice is too sweet, my prune juice gives me the runs, wings are boring, scra was always better, usac sucks, dust hurts my hemorrhoids, the show is too slow, tickets cost too much, there aren't enough race cars, senior sprints need to paid more, roll cages make it too safe, kids are too young to race, my diaper is too full, my walker is too squeaky, not enough races at the PAS, everything was better back when my unit still got hard, the beers too warm, the beers too cold, the nachos dont have enough cheese, the nachos have too much cheese... pretty much your average day around this forum. Bunch of crabby, complaining old farts and yet on a near daily basis there is someone posting wondering why this sport is perceived to be dying off. Look in the mirror.

Cheers!

everyone has an opinion. its places like this that people ARE allowed to express their opinions. it seems like some posters try to bully others on these pages just because they dont like or agree with what some people have to say on diferent subjects or ideas. is this still america ? can i still have a voice , a small one ?? as long as no one is getting hurt why do some people that post get so up set at whats written here. its funny..ease up people , its not like rip put his right rear on your left front and pointed you right to the scene of the crash!!! i just love non wing sprint cars!!

Glad to hear you had a good time Randy, and your right about sharing "a night of racing with 1s you care most about". Though my dad passed some years ago, he's still with me at the track.

Sorry guys, but Henry is right. Negativity on a public forum does nothing but harm to the sport you love. As far as I know, we are all doing the best we can right now!

So you don't feel people whine and complain too much on here? Here a promoter comes up with an idea to entertain the fans and put some cash in a racers pocket and its complained about. There is constant complaining here about USAC and everything else under the sun. At times complaints are necessary but this place you gotta admit is pretty ridiculous at times.
Cheers!

Rick,
Got to take it easy on Henry, he was once a main character in a book called Confessions of a Man Insane Enough to Live With the Beasts.
He gets plenty of elbow room from me....lol
Henry's right though, too much uninformed bitching, not enough constructive criticism, and not enough positive ideas that would actually help reverse the direction that sprint car racing is headed.
