That is my understanding also....................... BUT there are pretend races in Newton this weekend which might mess up I80 even more....
|
What are you .... the p.r. guy for Clements Folly??? 'pretend races' is giving that place WAY too much credit. (j.k. ya 3rd turn ...LOL...LOL..)

The mile long bridge (between Knoxville and Monroe) on IA 14 will be one lane that week as well (scheduled to start construction August 4th), so allow yourself some time for that detour as well.
|
According to that DOT link provided in the thread, the one-lane bridge on Hwy 14 is supposed to be done on August 10th, so if they aren't wrong it should be okay for the Nationals.
Those of you trying to enjoy the 360 Nats and other pre-Nationals activity might be hosed, but the big crowds should be accomodated.
Is this heaven?
No, it's Iowa....Knoxville, Iowa.

I think the route you are talking about from Nebraska takes I-35 South when you get to West Des Moines a couple miles to Hwy 65 East. Take Carlisle exit (Hwy 5) and stay on that through Carlisle and Pleasantville until you reach the Hwy 92 intersection. Go east into Knoxville. No construction when I drove it 3 weeks ago.

Coming from the east on I-80 get off at 173 (Kellogg) and take county road T22 south to Pella (follow the signs or gps/mapquest) and go to Knoxville from Pella across the dam.
DO NOT exceed the speed limit by 1 mph in Pella .... they love to nail non dutch out of towner's ... that is not a warning..that is a PROMISE !!!
Be very cautious going out of Pella any route to the dam ...it feels like it should be 45 or even 55 mph zone ..it is 35 mph and the Pella city limits go way past where you think.
This is Pella's Christmas time for the city coffers ... many of the 'Pellaites' hate (not all ...but many) Knoxville and race fans.
|
Going across the Dam isn't going to be too fun either. 1 lane with a Pilot car beginning Monday per KNIA/KRLS. The Army Corp of Engineers are having work done near the tainter gates.
On a positive note, it's better than the other 4 times they've done work this year, the Dam was CLOSED for weeks at a time earlier this year...

That does it !! I having 'The Donald' send his helicopter and I'll commute between the track and my place.
Do the road agencies/engineers just deliberately try and screw with race fans???

They moved up the work on the Dam to today and anticipate that tehy will have the work that they need the lane closed down for done today. But still may have men working on the Dam, so be prepared for reduced speed...
