Tulsa, Oklahoma
(August 2, 2011) – After a weekend of exploring a new venue, the Oil
Capital Racing Series will once again blast their way into the confines of the
Outlaw Motor Speedway in Muskogee Oklahoma to continue their assault on the
2011 sprint car tour. OMS typically produces some of the finest racing on tour
and race fans will get another opportunity to witness that first hand this
Friday night.
Among
the racing action to witness, the battle for the 2011 “Harold Leep Championship
Trophy” is as hot as the summer day. With 12 events in the books, Tulsa’s Sean
McClelland holds a miniscule four point lead over Whit “The Gasman” Gastineau
(966-962). Sitting just 54 markers
back of the Gasman is Stillwell’s Rafe Essary. With an all-time record series
point fund set in place for 2011, the $25,000 plus reward that awaits the
successful and qualifying teams at season’s and end is putting an interesting
twist on them to bring their best game forward.
Other
than the race for the championship, the scramble to take a top ten prize in the
points chase has become a heated battle in its self. Only 70 points separate
positions nine through thirteenth. “The Princess”, Miss Shayla Waddell of
Oklahoma City, leads that pack of challengers with 596 points. Tulsa’s Mike
Goodman lurks behind Waddell by only seven markers with Bristow’s highly
dedicated shoe, Tim Kent, only two points behind Goodman. A couple of the series’ younger
warriors, Inola’s Terry Easum and Sapulpa’s Kyle Clark are the next two on the
charts and are only separated by four points (530-526). With the share of the
points fund going to those that make 75% of the 2011 events and some teams
sitting outside that percentage as of late, each and every battle for position
amongst the qualifying teams is an important stake for the money being offered
up by OCRS with backing from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co.
The last
time OCRS was at OMS was July 15th when McClelland took the third
annual running of the “Harold Leep Nationals” against a field of 28 gun
slingers in a night that was filled with wild crashes, racing action and
on-track drama. With the aforementioned battles brewing, more of the same is
expected. Join us this Friday
night for an evening you will tell your friends and neighbors about.
OMS is located just 11 miles south of Muskogee on Highway
69.
