If he were to run the Nationals, What are some thoughts on how far up the Alphabet he would make it?
I say A-Main!! Besides the altercation with Dollanski on Friday I was pretty impressed with him at Eldora.

I'd say he'd start near the front of the C Saturday, transfer thru to the B, then get stuck near the back. I think his qualifying time on Wed/Thurs would set him back. It would be interesting!

It would definitely be interesting. I believe the last time he drove a sprint car at Knoxville (please correct me if I'm wrong) was in the early 2000's when Lasoski was still his driver and he was in a 360. He drove a car that had the same paint scheme as Lasoski and he didn't do very well.

I'm a big TS fan but I think he'd be racing in Friday's non-qualifiers program. There are way too many good team/drivers at the Nationals. Tony is a great talent, but has had limited seat time in a winged sprintcar over the years. I'd love to see him enter and prove me wrong though.

Like most of the field, would rest upon qualifying. IMO it would rest upon his pill draw as well; Tony can compete well in any form of racing, but he would be like most of the field a need a little luck with an early pill draw so he could hit the track at the opportune time.
Blaney last year was a perfect example of how I could see Stewart performing at the Nationals' nothing to be ashamed of considering the lack of seat time on a regular basis. A lot of quality regulars would finish behind him.
B-Main at best.

I would expect a nice C Main run, but wouldn't be surprised of a B Main. Smoke is simply the best behind any wheel, it would be awesome to watch.

At kville he won the b/ started 17th and finnished 5th or 6th and was hard charger. He was. Just tenth at a outlaw race so he could do well. So much of the nationals is luck and tony could buy a lot of luck!

Do these two sentences not contradict one another or am I just confused?

As much as I hate to say this, and as much as it will probably ruffle a lot of feathers, I think if you put that little b&*ch Kyle Busch in a sprint car and gave him a couple of hours of practice, he would actually stand a better chance of moving through the alphabet. I think Tony would have to make it in the A-main through qualifying night to do it. Not saying he couldn't make the A-main on qualifying night with a little fortune here and there (there are a handfull every year that do so), but transferring through the C-main or deep in the B, not likely. I will say though, one year at the LM nationals, he started 18th (or 19th?) and put on one hell of a show, passing some of the biggest names in Late Models. But that is Late Models, not 410's.

Boys and girls, I have a feeling we're going to find out how well he's going to do. Smokes been doing an awful lot of 410 racing this year. Wouldn't surprise me at all if he races at the Nationals. I believe it's something he's been wanting to do for a long time.

I see what he's thinking. Smoke is the best all around driver in auto racing today, IMO. If he'd run winged 410 sprints for a while he'd make the A, but as it is a good C main run would be pretty good. Possible mid-B. Hope to see some day.

I think some people underestimate how good this guy is. He had a run from deep in the field to 7th at Fremont I think earlier this year for an All Star Speedweek race (I think?), just finished 10th at the Royal. He would've qualified for the Silver Cup if it wasnt for his little mistake (I don't remember him racing at Lernerville before). I know Knoxville is a different beast, but I wouldn't put anything past Stewart. With as much seat time as he has had recently, I think he could be a showmaker. More likely to be a B Main car, but it wouldn't shock me if he put it in.

kart91, that Ohio Speedweek show was at K-C. Stewart made the A by finishing 4th in the B; started 24th in the A and DROVE to 7th in 30 laps. He wasn't handed a lot of positions by attrition, and 30 laps at K-C can go by pretty quickly. He was hooked up, using both the top and bottom at different ends of the track, and I was pretty impressed with how he did.
Seeing him do that and knowing how often he's been racing the sprint car lately makes me think he CAN make the A, but like most everyone so far I think he'd end up in the B or C.

I'm a big TS fan but, the ONLY way he'd have a chance at making the A on Sat night is if he drew an early TT number for a track that widened out a lot.
He'd have to time in the top 5 or so to get to start at the front of the B on his qual night to transfer to the A. With a decent run in the feature he'd be in the back of Sat nights A.
IMHO, I think that you will see TS race at Knoxville a time or two in a 410 before he shows up for the Nats.

After reading what I wrote it does look like a contradiction. My point is that I don't think we could expect anybody else to just jump into a sprint car for our biggest race and be a contender. I think if we knew that Tony was racing the Nationals and asked twenty people to pick who would be in the A on Saturday, at least 5 would have Tony on their list. I don't think there is any other Nascar/Indy Car racer that would be considered.
