THE PAS’ “SALUTE TO INDY” SATURDAY & TULARE SUNDAY; SHERMAN TAKES “THE LEALAND LEGACY” AT MANZY

Tony Jones continues to lead the 2007 Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Car standings with races this Saturday at Perris, Calif. and Sunday at Tulare, Calif.

Saturday’s race at Perris Auto Speedway in the track’s “Salute to Indy” and includes a 40-lap feature on the 1/2-mile dirt oval. Sunday’s race at Tulare’s 1/3 mile dirt Thunderbowl Raceway is a 30-lapper.

Jones holds an 82-point lead over Mike Spencer wit 148 points available in this week’s two events. Seven different drivers have tasted victory in the first seven USAC/CRA races of 2007 at The PAS.

Jeremy Sherman of Surprise, AZ. surprised the rest of the field Saturday night to win the 30-lap “Lealand Legacy” feature at Manzanita Speedway. The race honored racing legend Lealand McSpadden. Sherman took the lead on lap 27 and led the final four laps in his Jake’s/Maxum 2L Custom Trucks Maxim/Wesmar to lead a 1-2-3 parade of drivers whose surnames begin with the letter S. Danny Sheridan finished second ahead of Spencer, while series point leader Jones and Scotty Weir rounded out the “top-five.” Tom Ogle led for 12 laps and Sheridan led the next 14 before yielding to Sherman.

Sunday’s race at the Tulare Fairgrounds is USAC’s first there in 18 years.
