How about they scratch the World Challenge and replace with a 410 "regional" challenge. This could decide the top 410 region in the country.
You take the top three from each touring series/region (excluding the WoO). You could offer added bonus money for the 3 drivers for the best average finish of all the groups. The 7 groups are listed below for a 27 car field;
- King of the West
- NOSA
- Knoxville
- MOSA
- IRA
- All Stars
- FAST/Ohio
- PA Posse
- Australia

I like the idea but honestly would like to watch that field whip the Outlaws butt so make it 30 cars.
Another idea is to invite the points champion for the previous season for every track/series and do the same thing. Not sure how many track/series champs there would be for 410's. I would assume around 20...? Then fill the rest of the field based on fan vote conducted on-line over the course of the current season leading up to Nationals.

No need to scratch the World Challenge, just throw that in there anyway.

+1 for this idea the world challenge is nice but I think fans would rather see this race for bragging rights for their territory.

I agree. Plenty of time on Friday night to add another race. I love the idea though. I would also add the WOO. Take all 30 eligible drivers, and do some kind of invert based on their points from the qualifying nights to set the field. Run the 2 B-mains first, then the world challenge, then the non-qualifiers A-main, then this latest idea very last. Give a generous break in between the three main events since there will be many cars running more than once. I think it would work out great. And if they were forced to scratch one, i think the world challenge should go for this new idea.

All pretty good ideas, but you have to remember....would these guys want to risk a car or a starting position on Sat. nite for a deal like this on Fri nite? I agree that Fri nite at K-ville could use a little more excitement, just not sure how far everyone would want to go..

I say scratch the scrambles and bring back the Race of States and Mystery Feature and make ALL 50 cars that qualified for Saturday night race, not just the top 10 from the A, b and C mains.
Keep the World Challenge and make all 3 pay $10,000 to win as well as the Non-Qualifiers Feature @ $5000 to win.
This gives you a chance to have everyone entered in the Nationals in some race that night (4 features x 24 cars = 96 cars racing in some type of feature race).
I was watching an old tape of the 90 Nationals last weekend, the Race of States was won by Lasoski from deep in the field and the Mystery Feature was won by Dave Blaney from 15th (both races went NON-STOP) and they only ran 20 laps back then...
Would bring back some excitement and give a majority of the lower buck teams another chance to race for some good $$ that week.

While I am not a fan of the World Challenge, it exists to continue the partnership with Austrailian and New Zealand tracks.
I would rather it not end the Friday show and instead turn the 'A' scramble into a 20 lap event in which the starting order would be determined by points, but the finishing order would determine the starting lineup for the Saturday A main. That would give the guys starting in the back a chance to work to the front and if that were the final event of Friday, it would be a more fitting conclusion to the preliminary nights.
Is this heaven?
No, it's Iowa....Knoxville, Iowa.

Just go to three qualifying nights. You'd probably get more cars with 40 per night and five eight car inverted heats. That would make every night of equal importance.
The Nationals are supposed to be about racing for a National Champion, not about exhibition races that nobody cares about.

I like the regional challenge concept. Knoxville has really tried to hype the World Challenge, but it's sort of an afterthought.
How would you line up the race though? Would you invert based on points like they do in the World Challenge? Since the Posse are usually in the B and C main going into the final night, would that give them an unfair advantage? (haha, I couldn't resist.........)

If there were 30 cars, invert 24...so you get the squirrels from the organizations listed above that I've never even heard of out of the way.
Or you could just pill draw the whole event, which would get my vote.

I love this idea and if they did this I would prefer Knoxville to just add it in with the World Challenge. Put in WoO, but invert the field on total winnings from the previous year, maybe not a full invert because then you could get some cars up front that could cause an incident, but a large invert. Also change Australia to WSS and add in ASCS to the mix. I know ASCS isn't 410's but enough of their drivers show up to the Nationals with a 410 for this to work great.
