OFFICIAL SERIES PRESS RELEASE, JOHN PADJEN MOTORSPORTS
HOOSIER RACING TIRES CIVIL WAR RACE SERIES
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, MONDAY, MAY 21, 2007
MEDIA CONTACT: BILL SULLIVAN:

New Marysville Raceway Park to host high caliber Civil War Sprint Series this Friday
Indiana’s Wimmer leads series points and has confirmed entry for third round of series
By Bill Sullivan

(MARYSVILLE, CA – MAY 21, 2007) --- This Friday night the Hoosier Racing Tires California Sprint Car Civil War Race Series returns to action with the much-anticipated third round of competition at the new Marysville Raceway Park, formerly known at Twin Cities Speedway in Marysville, California. This event is the first of two Civil War segments taking place over the upcoming holiday weekend and will mark the first appearance at the newly improved quarter-mile dirt track after a rain out earlier in the season.
Last year, the north state dirt track was not the desired destination for the Civil War contenders, which is assembled of the most talented sprint car drivers in California. However, with new management and many improvements at the facility the majority of the winged warriors in the traveling series that competes for nearly $300,000 in winnings over its 15-race campaign are geared up and ready to test the new track that is now under the promotion of local contractors Paul and Kathy Hawes.

Saturday’s event will mark the first of two visits to MRP during the 2007 racing season. Entering it’s third event of the campaign, former World of Outlaws racer Brandon Wimmer of Fairmount, Indiana leads the series point standings. Although Wimmer and the Redi-Green Motorsports #1k team hadn’t intended on running the series, early season motor woes redirected their schedule and now with one feature win to their name in the series and two top ten finishes they will lead the roster on this special Friday night.

“We want to remain in first place so we’re going to Marysville this Friday night,” said Wimmer in a Redi-Green Motorsports press release. “We aren’t planning on running every race in the series though and are looking forward to going to Calistoga on Saturday and Sunday.” Wimmer currently sits three points ahead of defending three time series champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn. In round two Forsberg finished second in the feature event, garnering enough points to overtake second place in the standings from Rohnert Park’s Brett Rollag.

Rollag, who now drives for veteran car owner Rick Williams, now sits in the third position entering Friday’s event, just six points out of the lead. Scott Kinney of Citrus Heights maintains the fourth place position in the point standings. Kinney, a former midget lite racer in just his second year of sprint car racing, sits 15-points out of the lead and will enter Friday’s event with the momentum of his first career victory at Placerville Speedway last Saturday night.

Colby Wiesz, of Colfax has muscled up to round out the top five in the point standings. The former three time Marysville track champion is 16-points behind the leader aboard the competitive FnF Racing #X1 and is sure to be a contender at the track he use to call home for many seasons.
Rounding out the top ten is Dan Menne of Fort Jones, Mike Benson of Calistoga, Carl Droivold of Grass Valley and 2005 series champion Greg DeCaires of Elk Grove all of whom are expected in Friday’s event.

Many locals are also expected to compete on their home track of Marysville Raceway Park. Promoter Paul Hawes has encouraged his track regulars to compete with California’s “big dogs” by posting a $1000 bonus that will be divided up accordingly among drivers that have competed in a total of three point races this season so far.

Topping the list track regulars that are expected will be former Placerville Speedway Rookie of the Year Jeremy Burt of Grass Valley. Those expected to join Burt include the brother team of Cortney and Brandon Dozier, Jim Marsh, Tom Baker, Lee Armstrong, Brandon Dozier, David Derr Jr., former track champion Mike Monahan and recent feature winner Shawn Amos.

The front gates of Twin Cities Speedway will open at 5 p.m. on Friday. The event will be officiated by personell from the Civil War Series and qualifying will begin at 6:30 followed by heat races and semi-main events that will all lead up to the big 30-lap feature event worth $2,000 to the winner.
Following the Marysville event, the Civil War Series will then travel to Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico for the fourth round of competition on Sunday, May 27th. Many drivers will also compete Saturday night on the Silver Dollar clay for a non-points invitational event taking place in conjunction with the Silver Dollar Fair.

Release for Ventura Raceway 5-26-07

(Oxnard, CA 5-21-07) Saturday night May 26, at 5:30pm, Ventura Raceway will host another night of exciting open wheel dirt track racing at its Ventura County Fairgrounds facility, as we salute the 91st running of the Indy 500.c On that night we will feature our VRA 360 Sprint Cars, VRA Senior Sprints, VRA Dwarf Cars, VRA Junior Focus Midgets and IMCA Modifieds. These classes have proven to be some of the most exciting classes that we race here at Ventura.

VRA 360 Sprints return to action Saturday night after last weeks exciting event that saw visiting SCRA 360 star Davy Pombo take his first VRA Main Event win. He had to battle VRA stars Eric Severson, Rick Hendrix, Greg Taylor and visiting USAC/CRA Stars Cory Kruseman and Josh Ford to get the win. Other drivers doing well last week included Brandon Thomson, Steve Conrad and Dennis Rodriguez. Point leader Kevin Kierce had problems early in the race finishing 17th. This along with Taylor’s 6th place finish put them into a tie for the season point’s race at 1900 points. All the VRA drivers who raced last week will be back Saturday to continue the season long point’s battle. Racing so far in 2007 has been spectacular and Saturday night should be no exception.

Also on our schedule Saturday night will be our very popular VRA Senior Sprints. Last race, on May 12, Bruce Douglas took his first win of 2007 and moved into fourth place in the season point’s race that is currently lead by past champion, Wiley Miller, who finished second in the feature on May 12. Both Douglas and Miller along with many other fine drivers are expected to be here this weekend to put on another exciting night of racing in this class for over 45 year old drivers.

IMCA Modifieds are back Saturday night as well. Last race 2006 series champion Jack Parker took the 20 lap feature win over a strong field of 18 competitors. Randy McGraw drove an outstanding race coming from the rear of the field to finish second. Parker and McGraw will both be back racing against the likes of point leader Steve Smith, John Uccellini, Bill Waltman, Rick Rodarte, his son Austin Rodarte and many other fine IMCA drivers. This growing class of open wheel stock cars always put on crowd pleasing performances.

VRA Dwarf Cars are there as well to resume their point’s races in the two classes, Seniors and Pros. Point’s leaders Jim Scribellito in Pros and Ed Niedzwiecki in Seniors will be going all out to try to maintain their leads in their respective classes. Other drivers scheduled to appear in pros are Rob Anderson, Brent Stevens, Chuck Lippert and many other fine pro class drivers. In seniors, Gary Condit, Jon Prechtl, Bill VanPraag and others will be there to challenge Niedzwiecki.

Our final class for this weekend will be our VRA Junior Ford Focus Class. Last week’s winner Austin Mero will be going for two wins in a row after taking his first VRA feature victory on May 19. Point leader Austin Smith will be out to rebound after a 9th place finish last week. Smith, Dakota Kershaw, Alex Bowman and Mero are separated by a total of only 60 points in the season point’s race. Other drivers who will be here challenging for the win include Charlie Butcher, Brent Owens, Justin Kierce, Lance Butler and the rest of the drivers in this class.

Next week the USAC/CRA 410 Sprints make their first Ventura Raceway appearance of the 2007 season. All the best 410 drivers including Cory Kruseman, Rip Williams, Tony Jones, Troy Rutherford, Josh Ford, and a host of others will all be here along with our VRA Senior Sprints. This will be a special event you will not want to miss. Be sure to make your plans to be here for this event on June 2.

Pit gates open at 12 noon and front gates at 3:30pm with racing getting under way at 5:30pm. Admission for this event is $14.00 for adults, $11.00 for seniors/military/juniors, $5.00 for kids 7-12 and kids 6 and under free. For more information please call Ventura Raceway at 805-985-5433.

INAUGURAL THUNDERBOWL RACE SLATED FOR SUNDAY

Lakewood, Calif.– May 20, 2007 – This Sunday evening will mark the first-ever appearance of the Lucas Oil USAC/CRA sprint car series to the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif.

Even though this is the first-time the USAC/CRA sprinters have visited the Thunderbowl, 410 c.i. non-wing sprint cars are no stranger to the 1/3 mile Tulare dirt. Since 1998, the “Wingless Warriors” of the West have had 13 events at the Thunderbowl.

Defending USAC/CRA Champion Cory Kruseman of Ventura, Calif., and Rickie Gaunt of Torrance, Calif., each have three Tulare wins to lead all drivers. Kruseman has the distinction earning his wins with three different car owners, Harlan Willis, Mark Alexander and Cory Witherill, who drove in the 2001 Indianapolis 500.

Two of Gaunt’s wins came in 2004 driving for Tony Smiley. The other came in 2000 driving for Jack Gardner, Jr. This season, Gaunt currently sits fourth in USAC/CRA points driving for Nadine Gardner.

In addition to his victory with Kruseman, Alexander co-owned a car with Brad Geurin that Mike Kirby drove to Thunderbowl glory in 2001. Alexander’s car enters the weekend leading the USAC/CRA points chase with driver Tony Jones of Norco, Calif., on board.

With two wins on the year, Jones currently holds an 82-point advantage over Temecula, California’s Mike Spencer, who is one of nine drivers to have posted a single victory this season through 13 events. Spencer drives for car owner Ron Chaffin who resides in nearby Madera, Calif. As a car owner, Chaffin has been to the Thunderbowl’s victory lane three times, twice with the now retired Richard Griffin and once with 2005 USAC/CRA Champion Damion Gardner.

Another former Tulare winner is 51 year-old Rip Williams of Yorba Linda, Calif. During a career that spans four decades, “The Ripper” has registered 100 sanctioned 410 c.i. sprint car wins, two of which have come at the Thunderbowl Raceway. Still looking for his first win of 2007, Williams is sixth in series points behind Marion, Indiana’s Scott Weir.

Taking over the reins of the car that won the 2006 USAC/CRA title, Weir has driven Glenn Crossno’s car to two wins this season, and is the only driver other than Jones to have multiple feature wins in 2007.

Fresh off a runner-up finish at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, Ariz., Santa Maria, California’s Danny Sheridan is enjoying one of the best seasons of his sprint car career. Currently third in series points (170 behind Jones), Sheridan scored an exciting win last month at the Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway.

Earlier in the year, 2005 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year R.J. Johnson won his first series race at Perris, joining Garrett Hansen, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. and Weir on the list of first-time USAC/CRA winners. Other drivers to have won USAC/CRA features this season include: Kruseman, Charles Davis, Jr., Darren Hagen, Jeremy Sherman and 2006 USAC National Sprint Champion Josh Wise.

Thunderbowl Raceway presents USAC/CRA "Salute To Indy" this Sunday
By Gary Thomas

Tulare, CA - May 22, 2007... Tulare’s Thunderbowl Raceway will host the wingless 410 sprint cars of the Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Series this Sunday night May 27 in the first Salute to Indy at the 1/3 mile clay oval. The Salute to Indy will be the first time since 2004 that wingless 410's have graced the Tulare County Fairgrounds track. It will also mark the first time that the Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Series has ever competed at the Thunderbowl.

The USAC/CRA Series was formed in 2004 and regularly produces some of the best racing anywhere in the country. Thunderbowl Raceway is very pleased to have the series at the track and hope to make this Memorial Day weekend race an annual event.

The Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Series began the year with 11 different winners in the first 11 races, tying an all-time USAC record that was set in 1994. The streak was broken at 11 but it shows how remarkably even the field is this year with the USAC/CRA Series. The Salute to Indy at Thunderbowl Raceway on Sunday will be the second consecutive night of action for USAC/CRA as they will also be competing at their home track of Perris Auto Speedway the night before.

Leading the points coming into the weekend is the "Cowboy" Tony Jones of Norco, CA. Jones, the son of Southern California legend Bubby Jones, has won two races this season and holds an 82 point lead in the series standings. Last season Jones joined forces with the Alexander Racing, La Villa Restaurant No. 4 team and won eight USAC/CRA features en route to a third place finish the series standings. Jones also won the Friday prelim during last season’s Oval Nationals at the Perris Auto Speedway.

Second in points coming into the weekend is Downey, CA’s Mike Spencer who is in his first season driving the famous "Little Red Sucker" owned by Ron Chaffin. Last season saw Spencer have a breakout year finishing fourth in USAC/CRA points and winning three USAC/CRA Series feature’s, including the Thursday night prelim at the Oval Nationals. This year he’s been driving the Chaffin Motorsports, Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply No. 50 which has been wheeled in the past by "The Demon" Damion Gardner, Richard "The Gasman" Griffin and "The Tempe Tornado" Lealand Mcspadden.

Defending USAC/CRA champion Cory Kruseman of Ventura has taken a slight step back and has missed four races this season, but still ranks ninth in series points. Last year Kruseman won his first USAC/CRA championship and won four races along the way, but parted ways with team owner Glen Crossno at the end of the season so he could start up his own team. In January he announced the start up of the brand new Kruseman Motorsports "Driver Development Program." The 2-time Chili Bowl Midget Nationals winner and 2-time Oval Nationals champion has three drivers under his tutelage this season including: Michael Trimble, Alex Schutte and Jake Vail. He’s able to mentor the drivers as he continues to compete himself and it is a natural thing for him to do as he is also the owner of the Cory Kruseman Driving School in Ventura. Kruseman has won three wingless 410 races at the Thunderbowl in his career and his most recent triumph at the track came in February 2005 during the inaugural SCRA 360 race held in conjunction with the World of Outlaws.

Former Bandit Sprint Car champion "Showtime" Danny Sheridan of Santa Maria comes into the weekend third in points. Sheridan has picked up one win this season with USAC/CRA aboard the Kittle Motorsports No. 18 and finished runner-up last Saturday night with the series at Manzanita Speedway.

Fourth in current USAC/CRA points is "Super" Rickie Gaunt from Torrance, CA. Gaunt is also a winner of three wingless 410 events at the Thunderbowl in his career, two of which came in 2004, the same season he won the SCRA championship. Gaunt is a former winner of the Oval Nationals at Perris and he has even won a Golden State Challenge Series winged race, which came in 1991 at Santa Maria Speedway.

Other likely entrants for the Salute to Indy this Sunday at Thunderbowl Raceway will include: Scotty Weir, Rip Williams, R.J. Johnson, Garret Hansen, David Cardey, Josh Ford, Charles Davis Jr. and more. Central Valley driver Danny Faria Jr. from Tipton and Clovis resident Peter Murphy will also be in action as well as the possibility of Visalia’s Ricci Faria.

For more info on the USAC/CRA Series visit http://www.usacracing.com

Also in competition during the evening will be the Western States Modifieds. So far this season there have been three different winners in three WSM events. Randy Mcdaniel won last Saturday’s main event at the Thunderbowl. Other winners this season include Tim Balding and Bobby Hogue III.

The front gate at the Thunderbowl Raceway will open at 5 pm this Sunday with Reserved Grandstand tickets costing $18 and General Admission bleacher tickets costing $15. To purchase tickets call 559-688-0909.

First race is scheduled for approximately 7pm. For a seating chart, directions, a list of hotels and more, log onto http://www.tularethunderbowl.com The Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway is located at the Tulare County Fairgrounds on the corner of Bardsley and K Streets in Tulare.

Press Release, Golden State Challenge Series
For Immediate Release

Golden State Challenge Series set for 3-nights of action during Memorial Day Weekend
By Gary Thomas

Calistoga, CA - May 23, 2007....For the first time this decade the Golden State Challenge 410 winged sprint car series is set for three consecutive nights of racing action beginning this Friday at the Petaluma Speedway 3/8 mile clay oval. Following the event on Friday, the series will head for two nights of racing at the super-fast Calistoga Speedway with the traditional Memorial Day weekend double header at the historic ½ mile dirt oval.

Friday’s event in Petaluma is a make up date from the rain out on April 21 and will be the 13th Round of action for the Golden State Challenge Series. Leading the points coming into Petaluma is Campbell’s Brent Kaeding who has dominated the action over the past month ½.

The 12-time King of California has won five of the last six Golden State Challenge Series races and holds a 14 point lead over former champ Sean Becker of Oroville coming into the weekend. The Al’s Roofing Supply, Selco Heating and Air crew have had the No. 69 machine dialed in this season and BK has pushed his career GSC win total to 75 following last Saturday’s win in Tulare. In 11 GSC races this season BK has finished in the top five nine times and in the top 10 on 10 occasions.

The top 10 in GSC points coming into Petaluma is made up of Kaeding, Becker, Chico’s Jonathan Allard, Sacramento’s Willie Croft, San Jose’s Jason Statler, Salinas’ Ronnie Day, Chico’s Brett Miller, Gilroy’s Jon Maiwald, Campbell’s Bud Kaeding and Tracy’s Jason Botsford. GSC rookie driver Evan Suggs of Scotts Valley will be in action at Petaluma but will be taking the Calistoga weekend off. He’ll return in June with a new Maxim Chassis set to debut sometime during the month.

The pit gate will open up at noon on Friday and the front box office opens at 3 pm. Cars are expected to hit the speedway about 5 pm and racing to begin around 7. All seating is general admission and ages 12-64 will be $16, juniors 6-11 will be $12 and kids five and under are free. Seniors 65 and over will be $10.

To get to the track take take Highway 101 to the Washington Blvd exit. Then go West on Washington Blvd to Ellis St. and turn left into the fairgrounds.

On Saturday the Golden State Challenge Series will compete at the Calistoga Speedway for the first time this season with the annual Salute to Walter T. Ross, a night paying respect to the former Northern Auto Racing Club President and long time car owner. His famous #56 graced victory lane at Calistoga Speedway on 11 occasions and was one of the most recognizable sprint cars of its era. Ross passed away in 1987 from A.L.S. and this race recognizing him has become a tradition on Memorial Day weekend.

The Golden State Challenge Series will be in Calistoga again the following night for the 24th annual Tribute to Gary Patterson. Also known as the Dancing Phantom, the Preacher, the Hostile Hipee or just simply GP, Patterson was one of the most colorful characters of his time and considered Calistoga Speedway to be one his favorite tracks. He sits in a tie for seventh on the all-time Calistoga Speedway win list and once held the track record for an amazing 10 years. GP was unfortunately taken from us in an accident at Calistoga Speedway on Memorial Day weekend 1983, but his memory lives on and Calistoga has payed tribute to him on Memorial Day weekend every year since his death.

This year’s Memorial Day weekend in Calistoga will be a little different as 7-time Calistoga Speedway track champion and the defending winner of both the Salute to Walter T. Ross & Tribute to Gary Patterson, Steve Kent of Fresno, decided to retire in the off-season. Kent swept last season’s Memorial Day weekend double header and ends his career having won the past two Tribute to Gary Patterson main events and sits in a tie for fourth on the all-time Calistoga Speedway win list. Kent along with Brent Kaeding are the only two drivers to have won the Tribute to GP on four separate occasions. The driver formally known as "The Sock" also tied Ronnie Day last year for the most wins ever in the Salute to Walter T. Ross with his third career triumph in the race, as he held off World of Outlaw star Jason Meyers. Kent has won the last three GSC races at Calistoga and hasn’t finished worse than second since 2004. With Kent out of the picture, it will leave the door wide open for several hopefuls looking to continue the tradition of Memorial Day Weekend racing at the picturesque ½ mile dirt track.

The last driver other than Kent to win with GSC at Calistoga is the second all-time winningest driver in Calistoga Speedway history, Brent Kaeding. The Campbell veteran has visited victory lane 21 times in his Calistoga Speedway career and is tied with Kent for the most wins in the Tribute to Gary Patterson. The ultra versatile driver has won races with and without a wing at Calistoga in his more than 20 year career at the track. At certain times BK has struggled in Calistoga, but when on his game, he can be nearly unstoppable at the Napa County Fairgrounds Speedway.

The other big favorite heading into the Calistoga weekend is 2000 King of California Ronnie Day of Salinas. The veteran has tasted victory lane at Calistoga eight times in his career and will be tough to beat as he pilots the always potent Ridgeline Framing, Elite Landscaping No. 1. Day is tied with Kent for the most wins in the Salute to Walter T. Ross and this weekend will look to pick up his first sprint car win since July of 2005. At one point in the late 90's Day won three of four at the Salute to Walter T. Ross while he was driving the Welden Offill No. 88. The 48 year-old driver comes into the weekend sixth in GSC points. Last season Day finished fifth in the Salute to Walt Ross and third in the Tribute to GP. Last Saturday night in Tulare Day finished second to Brent Kaeding in the main event and has momentum coming into the Calistoga weekend.

Oroville’s Sean Becker comes into the Memorial Day weekend second in points and will look to turn up the heat on Kaeding. Last year’s Tribute to Gary Patterson saw Becker have the finest Calistoga Speedway run of his career as he got around Bud Kaeding & Andy Gregg to transfer through his heat and then scored a nice fourth place finish in the feature while driving the Family Auto Service No. 98x. This year will see Becker sit aboard the Fisher/Main Motorsports, Cherry St. Mini Storage No. 35m for the Salute to Walt Ross & Tribute to GP as he tries to win his first career Calistoga Speedway main event.

Defending King of California Jonathan Allard of Chico will also be looking for his first career Calistoga Speedway win this weekend aboard the Morrie Williams owned GT Trends No. 0. Allard has had some good moments at the ½ mile Speedway the last couple years, but he has also had some rough ones. Last year’s Memorial Day weekend saw Allard get upside down on the opening lap of the Salute to Walter T. Ross main event. The 30 year-old driver was able to restart the race and put on an exciting charge to the front as he eventually finished in fourth place. The following night at the Tribute to GP he was running in second place when a drive line failure forced him to stop and bring out a red flag during the feature. Allard also escaped a scary flip down the front stretch during the 2001 Tribute to GP while he was driving the Rick Wright No. 35. It hasn’t been all bad for Allard the last couple years, however, as he’s scored three fourth place finishes during the last four GSC races in Calistoga. Coming into the weekend his best career finish at Calistoga is fourth and he’ll look to improve upon that this Saturday and Sunday.

Sacramento’s Willie Croft heads into his first ever Memorial Day weekend at Calistoga Speedway having possibly the finest season of his career. Croft sits fourth in GSC points going into the three day’s of action and he is just three points behind Allard for third. Croft’s crew chief, former NARC champ Rick Hirst, continues to have the Holey Smokes BBQ, LRB Manufacturing No. 29 running strong and "Double Down" is doing an excellent job this season. Croft is a former Mini Gold Cup champion at Chico’s Silver Dollar Speedway.

Defending Calistoga Speedway champion Jason Statler will be looking to put the Tom Rolfe Trucking, DF Rios Construction No. 10 into victory lane during the weekend. Statler won his first career Calistoga Speedway feature during the August Civil War Series stop at the ½ mile last season. "The Big Guy" has been winless so far this season, but there’s no other track he’d rather win at to break into the win column.

Another driver that is sure to be a factor during the Calistoga weekend is the ARB Inc. No. 1k of Fairmount, Indiana’s Brandon Wimmer. This season Wimmer has hooked up with the Redi-Green No. 1k team owned by Shammi Kumar and the combo has won three races so far this year. Wimmer spent 2005 on the road full time with the World of Outlaws and that same season he scored a runner-up finish to Steve Kinser during opening night of the WOO sanctioned Harvest Classic at Calistoga Speedway. Wimmer will not be running Petaluma on Friday but is expected to be in action at both the Salute to Walter T. Ross and the Tribute to Gary Patterson.

Other drivers expected at Calistoga Speedway include Chico’s Brett Miller, Campbell’s Bud Kaeding, Calistoga’s Mike Benson, Sydney, Aust’s Trevor Green, Carruther’s Garrett Ishii, Gilroy’s Jon Maiwald, Tracy’s Jason Botsford, Discovery Bay’s Jim Skinner, Fresno’s Mark Workentine and more.

Something new for Calistoga Speedway this season is that all seating will be general admission during the Memorial Day weekend. Tickets go on sale at 4 pm on race day and gates open at 5. Adult tickets cost $20 and kids 4-12 will be $10. For more info on the weekend’s race contact 707-942-5111 or log onto http://www.napacountyfairgrounds.com/about_us.htm

The Calistoga Speedway is located on the beautiful Napa County Fairgrounds in Calistoga and is located at 1435 North Oak Street. Get to the track early each day as most of the teams will on the grounds working on their race cars. Also don’t forget about the annual pancake breakfast held on Sunday morning in the Tubbs Building on the fairgrounds. As always there will be a big screen TV set up to watch the Indy 500.

OFFICIAL SERIES PRESS RELEASE, JOHN PADJEN MOTORSPORTS
HOOSIER RACING TIRES CIVIL WAR RACE SERIES
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, WEDNESDAY, MAY 23, 2007

Ferris wheels, cotton candy and the Civil War series; Silver Dollar Fair an true bargain

By Bill Sullivan

CHICO, CA – These days, the only auto race one can watch for less than $10 per day is either a televised event or one of the put put go kart races that can be viewed peeking through the fence at the local fun park. The first of those two options actually has it’s price these days and second is surely sub par compared to the value in at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico this weekend where fans can enjoy can enjoy a quality fair and high caliber auto race for six dollars or less. It’s twice the action at a less than half of the regular price.
This Sunday, the Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Sprint Car Series will make it’s first appearance of the season at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. This special Memorial Day Weekend event is part of a three-day event at the popular quarter-mile oval and it all takes place in conjunction with the Silver Dollar Fair. With the combined efforts of track promoter John Padjen and the management of the Silver Dollar Fair, race fans and their families can attend all of the activity for one low admission price. Adults are only $6, children ages 6-12 are $4 and under five is free to the fair and that admission includes the auto racing later in the evening.
“It’s all about working together with the fairgrounds,” said Padjen, the 2006 National Auto Racing Promoter of the Year. “This brings new blood into the race track, families that may have never seen a sprint car race and will likely return to another once they see what it is all about. It also generates revenue for the fair as many race teams and their families arrive early to enjoy the rides and exhibits.”
Prior to Sunday’s Civil War showdown, an event that features the best of the west in the fourth round of the traveling 15-race series for Winged 360 Sprint Cars, Silver Dollar Speedway will host the weekly Feather Falls Casino championship series on Saturday night with the weekly Dirt Modifieds, Pure Stocks and Wingless Sprint Cars. The three regular divisions will be joined by many of the winged 360 sprint cars that will be gearing up for Sunday’s big event.
Entering the weekend for the Civil War, Brandon Wimmer of Fairmount, Indiana currently sits three points ahead of defending three time series champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn.
The former three time Marysville track champion is 16-points behind the leader aboard the competitive FnF Racing #X1.
Rounding out the top ten is Dan Menne of Fort Jones, Mike Benson of Calistoga, Carl Droivold of Grass Valley and 2005 series champion Greg DeCaires of Elk Grove all of whom are expected in Friday’s event.
Following Sunday’s event, Silver Dollar Speedway will conclude the holiday weekend with the annual 200 lap bomber enduro race on Monday afternoon.

Marysville Raceway Park
Press Release 5.23.07
Bob Burbach

$5 Gen admission & $1 Hot Dogs Saturday
1st Fan Appreciation Night at MRP

Marysville CA. The MRP Street Stocks and MRP Mini Stocks will bring a host of racers to headline point racing this Saturday for Paul and Kathy Hawes first Fan Appreciation Night. All general admission tickets will be $5 and Hot Dogs will be $1 all night long. Marysville Raceway Park will complete the dynamic Memorial weekend with the always entertaining fendered warriors. Tradin’ paint is their ply and trade and it should be a great evening of high energy stock car action.

Heather Bartlett will bring a nine point lead into the competition over last year’s champion Phillip Shelby in the MRP Street Stock class. “Rapid Ray” Benkowski is only a single marker behind Shelby. All three are Yuba City products and at this writing Miss Bartlett holds the championship point lead in Chico’s stock car class as well. It is the first time in history that a female driver has had the point lead at both tracks in stock cars. Last week’s feature event winner Jeff Olschowka of Marysville will be back with his arch rival, Jerry “Mr Controversy” Bartlett trying to get back into the trop five in the standings. It is also the first time in history that two lady drivers were on top of the points in BOTH stock car divisions at MRP.

The guys will try to keep the heat on point leader Lisa Shelby as the MRP Mini Stock program will unfold. Shelby is being shadowed by last year’s champion Joel Giusti, of Sutter, Blane Baker, of Yuba City and Mike Merritt of Marysville in his familiar “Crazy Taxi”. James Foster is fifth. Shelby is a two time feature event winner this year and there is ample reason to believe that the guys better step up their collective programs before Shelby creates an insurmountable lead. The fact is, they have to beat her on the track and as long as she keeps taking checkered flags first the lead increases every week. Marysville’s Eric Jones found his way to victory lane last week and should be a factor again this Saturday.

Bring everyone you know to MRP on Saturday. Have a couple of hot dogs, sit back and enjoy the show. It will be more fun than you’ve had in a while. High speed slam bang action will be on tap with, likely, an early out and ride home for all the kids. Spectator Gates Open at 5PM with racing getting underway at 7PM.

The SORA Sprint 100s will bring their traveling show to MRP on Saturday as well. These 4cylinder winged sprint cars will present a pair of heat races and 20- lap main event. An extra added event will feature The Extreme Bombers. This interesting new look at a potential class of the future will also put on an exhibition of their own as the curtain comes down.

Make our website one of your “favorites” on you computer. marysvilleracewaypark.com is the address. Watch this site for press releases and updates.

Pit gates open at 3PM Saturday. Contact the promoters at 1.530.743.1327 or email as indicated on the home page at marysvilleracewaypark.com.

OFFICIAL SERIES PRESS RELEASE, JOHN PADJEN MOTORSPORTS
HOOSIER RACING TIRES CIVIL WAR RACE SERIES
ROUND 3 OF 15, MARYSVILLE RACEWAY PARK, MARYSVILLE, CA
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, FRIDAY, MAY 25, 2007
MEDIA CONTACT: BILL SULLIVAN:

Wimmer wins second Civil War feature of the year at Marysville Raceway Park

Series now heads to Silver Dollar Speedway for round four this Sunday, May 27
By Bill Sullivan

MARYSVILLE, CA – As a resident of Fairmount, Indiana and a former regular on the national World of Outlaws tour, sprint car driver Brandon Wimmer is no stranger to “bull ring” style race tracks and the 20-year-old has admitted he loves the smaller dirt tracks. Friday night, Wimmer added another California track to his list of favorites after he drove the Shammi Kumar owned ARB Incorporated #1K Maxim to it’s second Civil War victory of the season.
The win was Wimmer’s first at the new Marysville Raceway Park, where 36-cars entered the third Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War event of the season. Earlier in the night, a somewhat dry and rough track conditions posed many challenges to competitors but the evening concluded with one of the most exciting Civil War events to ever take place on the quarter-mile track located in the heat of California’s farmland.
“This was a lot of fun running here tonight, it was pretty tough earlier in the night but by the time we got out here for the feature this track was pretty fast. I love these little tracks,” said Wimmer. “After one of the caution flags came out I was able to move up closer and used the lapped the lapped traffic. We’re looking forward to the weekend and heading to Calistoga tomorrow to try the bigger track.”
The original waving of the green flag in the feature event had Wimmer taking the lead over pole sitter Greg DeCaires of Elk Grove. This start was immediately followed by a yellow flag when Courtney Dozier of Marysville tangled with Kyle Larson of Elk Gove in turns one and two. At the opposite end of the track, Jeff Delte of San Jose spun around as well. All three drivers were able to continue the event until Delte spun on the second attempt to end his night early.
Once the official green flag followed, DeCaires was well aware of Wimmer’s intentions and muscled his John Taylor Motor sports #35 Eagle into the lead position and began driving the low line on the track, taking advantage of the moisture that remained in his preferred driving line that earned him his longtime nickname of “The Catfish.”
While DeCaires was swimming in familiar waters, Wimmer was making waves in the second position by running the risky but lightning fast high line of the track, being chased by former two time champion Mike Henry of Sacramento aboard the Werbach Motorsports #20. Just four laps into the event, DeCaires took his lead position into the likes of lapped traffic until a red flag flew on the seventh lap for a collision involving Andy Gregg of Placerville and Carl Droivold of Cedar Ridge.
Both Gregg and Droivold avoided injury in the incident but were unable to return for the restart. It was that restart that saw yet another red flag when Korey Lovell of Yuba City and Jeremy Burt tangled in turn three with damage.
Once the green flag waved again DeCaires resumed his lead with Wimmer and Henry in his wake and rookie Mason Moore of Princeton battling for the fourth position with the likes of Colby Wiesz of Colfax and defending champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn. With 13 laps in the book the leaders reached lapped traffic and after a rear shock failed on DeCaires’ car, Wimmer closed in on his handicapped prey and slipped below DeCaires on the front stretch to overtake the lead.
Once in front, Wimmer distanced himself from DeCaires who began battling with Henry for the second position. On the 18th lap Henry drove to the outside of the fourth turn to overtake DeCaires and set his sights on the distantly leading Wimmer. When the checkered flag waved it was Wimmer followed by Henry, Forsberg, Wiesz and Stephen Allard.
“I would have liked to win this deal tonight but a second place tonight is really good for us,” said Henry. “Last week I wrecked this car pretty bad and Tim Werbach built a brand new car for this deal. We’re looking forward to Chico and maybe we can pick up one of these Civil War wins before the weekend is over.”
In the B-main event on Friday, Courtney Dozier took the lead at the green flag. The red flag flew for this event on lap four when Cody Gainey of Rocklin rolled over in turn two of the fourth lap. Once the event was restarted another red flag delayed the event when Pat Harvey Jr. of Nevada City tangled with Jeremy Burt of Grass Valley in turns one and two, both drier flew upside down. Burt was able to continue moving on all four wheels to salvage his starting spot for the restart. Harvey retired from the race.
Scott Kinney of Citrus Heights drew the third caution of the event with second laps complete when he retired after falling victim to a damaged rear wheel and shredded tire following a collision with Brandon Dozier. Once the race resumed Dozier continued to dominate the lead. On the tenth lap Brandon Dozier of Marysville spun in turn four to delay the event. On the final restart Dozier maintained the lead over Brad Bumgardner of Chico,Droivold and Mark Tabor Sr. In the closing laps Matt Patty of Jackson charged in to the five and finished ahead of Burt.
In heat racing competition defending series champion Andy Forsberg took home the checkered flag in the opening heat race. Forsberg was followed across the line by Dean Freitas of Kapolei, Hawaii. Mike Henry of Sacramento spun earlier in the event and rallied back to third place at the finish ahead of Colby Wiesz of Colfax who edged Mark Tabor Jr. to the line. Chico’s Brad Bumgardner drew the first red flag of the evening in this event
The second heat race of the night started off with James Sweeney of Placerville taking the lead before striking one of the tractor tire at the edge of the infield in turn four. The collision broke Sweeney’s front axle before he collected Rocklin’s Cody Gainey on the front stretch, a collision which caused severe damage to Sweeney’s rear suspension, drawing a yellow flag. Brett Rollag of Rohnert Park went on to win the event over Andy Gregg of Placerville, Jeff Delte of San Jose and Mason Moore of Princeton.
In heat three, Mike Monahan of Sparks, Nevada jumped to a distance lead he never relinquished while the field behind him produced an exciting wheel to wheel race. Korey Lovell of Yuba City finished in second place in his Civil War season debut. Point leader Brandon Wimmer of Fairmount, Indiana finished in third followed by Stephen Allard.
The fourth and final heat race of the evening had former Marsville champion Mark Hall of Grass Valley taking the win followed by Elk Grove’s Kyle Larson, Greg DeCaires of Elk Grove and Marysville’s own Shain Matthews.
In qualifying Friday night, former two time Civil War Champion Mike Henry of Sacramento turned the quickest lap of the night with a 12:508 second lap. Rookie driver Mason Moore of Princeton was the second quickest driver with a 12:556. Series point leader Brandon Wimmer of Fairmount, Indiana was the third qualifier of the night with a 12:584.
Following the Marysville event, the Civil War Series will now travel to Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico for the fourth round of competition on Sunday, May 27th. Many drivers will also compete Saturday night on the Silver Dollar clay for a non-points invitational event taking place in conjunction with the Silver Dollar Fair.
