Back in the day (mid sixties) I was starved for racing, the only racing to be seen on TV was usually Wide World of Sports six mos. after the fact. If my Dad and Me wanted to see racing we had to get in the car and go to local track, and when you got there (usually Devils Bowl) for a weekly show you sat elbow to elbow to watch 3 classes of cars, with real b features in all classes. If you wanted to know what happened you had to be there. Now the casual fan just turns on the TV or computer for an hour or so and they're satisfied for another month. No real point to this, just lamenting the loss of local racetracks, and chuckling to myself whenever someone says if I could just get TV coverage I could get better sponsors.

I'm not so sure about this. Since there is so much limited coverage of sprint cars on TV I don't think that is really the cause for a casual fan to not show up, because a sprint car race on TV is definitely not the same as seeing it live. I think the problem may be that people get so infatuated with the idea of the World of Outlaws being the top tier of sprint car racing and so if they do go to a show then they go to the Outlaw show and they just don't think much about the local racetrack because it doesn't have the big names, which is to be expected as people want to see the names that they already know such as Kinser, Swindell, Schatz, and Saldana.

Don't get me wrong I dig the Outlaws and love the racing they put on and the people that show up to watch the races because that helps the track out too, but you can see just as good of a show on a regular Saturday night show or an ASCS National/Regional show for a cheaper price as well, but the casual fan doesn't know this sadly.
