From the Grandstand Ron Rodda

Lincoln, CA ¦Although almost 4 months away still, the 18th Annual Trophy Cup is reaching its maximum entry level with 72 cars on the list as of Tuesday morning, June 28th. The list includes 62 drivers plus an additional 10 entries are to be announced as to who will be strapped into the winged 360 sprint come October 21st.

Due to the state mandated curfew for fairgrounds tracks, the number of entrants must be limited so as to keep the event manageable within time constraints. A total of 80 entries will be accepted so 8 guaranteed spots remain. An additional 10 entries above the 80 figure will be accepted to form a waiting list for any opening. There is a possibility of the field being enlarged to 90 entrants, and if so those 10 on the waiting list would be included.

The October 21/22 event at Tulare Thunderbowl will pay a guaranteed $20,000 to the highest point car after two days of intense action. The total purse of $80,000 is split about equally between the racing payout and the point fund. Last year Jonathan Allard was the event champion while Roger Crockett took the opening main and Tim Kaeding won the 2nd night main from 19th starting.

Jumping ahead two years, the 20th Trophy Cup in 2013 will pay $50,000 to the event champion. The 20th Cup is potentially going to be the last one. Event creator and CEO, Dave Pusateri, is ready to retire and spend time on other activities. With the support and sponsorship of Southwest Contractors of Bakersfield, CA, the 20th annual event will be the richest ever and a spectacular way to end the series, if indeed that does become the final Cup.

The drivers entered:
Evan Suggs Ken Fredenburg Andy Gregg Kenny Allen
Mason Moore Brad Furr Brent Kaeding Rico Abreu
Tommy Tarlton Cody Lamar Steven Tiner Pat Harvey
Anthony Simone Jonathan Allard Steven Jaquith Trey Starks
Craig Stidham Shawn Wright Bradley Terrell Jason Statler

Definitely one of the best races on the west coast right up there with the Dirt cup and Gold cup when it was a 3 day event, hopefully work will be slow so I can make it down from Alaska again.

20 years? That's two more years or three more Trophy Cups. How many of you have been able to string 18 years together of something this great? I sure as hell know I haven't. In fact if I make it through the next three years the Trophy Cup will be the only race I've never missed one of. Honestly - I would be fine with that. These are some HUGE shoes to fill people. However - the people involved with making this happen could continue to make it happen without Dave were he to chose to step aside if they chose to. They are all THAT good. I can't see Dave ever not being a part of this and if that day were to come it would be a sad one. Would I be happy to be alive and at the 30th annual TC? You know it.....
