My favorite thing about Lanny is when he pays. He has never backed up on any pay and always pays in long green with a short future. Any race he promotes gets the pay he advertises, that means a lot to me.

Wether you want to admit it or not Lanny probably saved SFS. If it wasn't for that, we would be like Tulsa and have no track at all. Other than that he is a jacka$$. My favorite promoter(s) would have to be C Ray Hall from wichita. He and his family have always treated us great. They always take care of us wether we are here, wichita, chili bowl, or knoxville. Last year at Knoxville they loaded my daughter up with stuff. Second would have to be Cappi at Knoxville. He doesn't take crap from anyone no matter what the last name.

P.S. WHAT is your problem JD, making me get on here and post something positive. Everyone will think I just got off the crack pipe.

Let's see....

His little temper tantrums are annoying, yet entertaining at times!

Okay. I'll bite. As JD said without Lanny the SFS would probably be nothing more than a memory. I like Lanny as a fan. Call me a Lanny lover if you'd like. I don't care. I enjoy and appreciate the efficiency of his shows and the fact that he always starts on time (or close to it) which is something A LOT of tracks should take some notes on. I know I might get bashed for this because it seems to be a hot issue on here but I appreciate the fact that he and his crew aren't "yellow flag happy." I hate going to a track where drivers constantly fish for yellows or the officals throw yellows before giving the driver a chance to restart, get turned around etc. it slows the show down and 2 laps of racing -yellow- two laps of racing -yellow- 3 laps of racing -yellow- just isn't an exciting show. Granted I think that Lanny sometimes takes this to an extreme and there are times when yellows should be thrown at the SFS and aren't and he sometimes puts drivers in danger which obviously isn't cool. I also appreciate the fact that he doesn't run excessive pace laps during yellows or before the green drops. Lanny also seem to be one of the best and most consistent promoters I've seen when it come to track prep. Are there things I don't like about Lanny? Sure... but that isn't what this post is about.

Well I will have to take the 5th, we will stay at good old Meeker, and will only race at Lannyville at the Winter Nationals.....I like SFS just can't stand the promoter, and we will not donate are money to his fat pockets at all, if others who grip about what he does would just not race there for awhile he might open his eyes and treat the racers & fans with a better attitude, He might have saved SFS but he is still a money hungry man. My .02 on the matter...

I like him most when he brings the World of Outlaws to Oklahoma City, so I guess you could say our "relationship" has cooled.

I agree with all of the positives here. I have noticed this, years later when the racin's done and and his names brought up, he may still be complained about a little but not with hatred. One other thing, even if he doesn't remember you, he acts like he does. Oh and one more other thing, the Chili Bowl is proof he still loves racing to some degree!

I've always wondered if Emmit didn't get Lanny's help for the funds in the begining. When that deal started Emmit probably didn't have the funds he has now. One could imagine he probably would like to not have to share the proceeds.

I like Lanny , He has done a lot to try and save racing in Oklahoma , not all people agree with his Ideas sometimes , but look at what he has done for our sport . He must be doin somethin right he's still here . The thing I like the most about him is when he gets on to the track prep guys for too much water , the next week you can almost bet on a good ole dry slick !!!!!!!!

winners dont cry when they lose , they go back to the
drawing board and come back for round 2 !

I've bashed on Lanny Edwards a lot, but 1 of the few good things I see about him is also probably the most important. As a fan.........every time I leave 1 of his tracks I am satisfied because it is almost always a good race. I think more credit goes to the drivers than to anyone else, because they put up with his crap and without them we wouldn't see the good races we do. The fact he acts the way he does is not near as significant to me as the fact that he doesn't tech or enforce rules very well at the fairgrounds. Personally I think thats gonna lead to more problems in the future, but currently you always see good races at his tracks and it usually ends at a decent time.

My favorite promoter would be Bo Rawdon who runs Cowtown Speedway down in Fort Worth. It is also my favorite track b/c it's such a high banked lil quarter-mile, but the guy just runs his races really good. And the few times I've called down there to ask a question or 2 it is always Bo who answers and is as courteous as could be. It's not like I go there weekly or anything.....but I think he is a hell of a promoter.

I also would think that the guy who runs I-30 in Little Rock is probably good. To have as good of races as they do there I would think he's doin somethin right.

I appreciate your show of respect. Please remember that when the Bowl started it was just to have something to do and make a little money. Lanny had lost his ass with that Hydroplane race in OkC and suffered a heart attack in '85. Racing had always been fun but it wasn't much that way anymore. The Tulsa connection was of course with Hahn, but also they needed a building with a great location. Also Midgets ran there in the late 40's and Emmitt likes to bring racing back to the fairgrounds when it's possible. If Emmitt had the money, he'd buy the fairgrounds and kick the f@#$%*g   horses out. THE POWER OF ENTHUSIASM HAS FUELED THE CHILI BOWL  and Lanny beleived in it and he needed a new reason why. Let's not forget the chassis building business that went down in flames along with a good bit of his money. For Lanny, racing was fun in the '60s and he made enough to get by, It was a lot of fun in the '70s and he made a lot of money. In the 80's it was a nightmare and in the '90s it was okay. He is only doing what he knows how to do and he has seen 95% of his colleagues fall by the wayside. You have to admire him for his tenacity. By the way, NO ONE EVER GETS TIRED OF A MUDDY RIGHT REAR OR THE SOUND OF AN A FEATURE TAKING THE GREEN. Once in your blood, it stays there.

BobcatJD, if you agreed with me on everything, I'd get bored with your opinion. I do tend to find I'm wrong on occasion!

I never have understood why so many people seem to dislike promoters that earn a profit and are sucessful.  Why not applaud those that are sucessful and grow the sport and make improvements to their facilities and equipment.  I always wish the best for those folks taking the risks to promote and produce any type of motorsports event.  Looking around at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit this past weekend, I noticed thousands of dollars of improvements that have been made since the 2006 season.  The track has been rejuvinated, re striped and pit road has new markings, water safety barries and more.  They invested in a new AMB Timing and Scoring System, and purchased a new tractor and much more equipment for maintenance of the facility.  The motorsports store located on the first floor of the tower has a larger inventory and new items and a new look.   What I am getting at is if these track owners, promoters and sanctions do not earn a profit they cannot grow and make improvements or invest in equipment to streamline the programs.  So what if a race earns the promoters 100,000 or a million or 5 million dollars.  All the better.  The other side of this is failure of the facility such as Tulsa Speedway experienced.  Which would you rather have, a sucessful race promoter or weeds growing on the racing surface?

Things I like about Lanny Edwards is he gets the job done. His craftsmanship may not be pretty or fancy, but it is functional and sturdy. He always has ice cold water for his staff members and delivers it to their stations on race night. The office and press box are stocked up with snacks, cans of nuts from the local General Dollar store can be found at every desk I have seen him deliver candy bars and various snacks to the help at SFS on many occasions.

Lanny gives suggestions and share his past experience with other promoters and track owners. He and his wife travel to most every motorsports trade shows and volunteer their time, conducting Round Table dissicussion groups among motorsports promoters and track owners to improve motorsports overall. .

I have see Lanny working on the Air Conditioner for the Press Box during the hot summer races. Keep in mind he does not own that equipment at SFS, but his staff need the office to be cooled due to all the electronic equipment operating and creating tremendous amounts of heat.

Factoid: Actually the Chili Bowl lost money the first year and the story has it that Bob Berryhill funded Emmett Hahn the second season and up until it turned a profit. The Berryhill family owned The Original Chili Bowl, Inc., a food service company that was the founding and title sponsor for the “Chili Bowl” Midget Nationals held each year in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
