Cody Morris, TULSA, OK (6-28-2011) - Independence Day and Dirt Track Racing. The long annual wait is coming to its anticipated end. A family tradition for generations, indeed since the inception of the sport itself, our beloved Nation's 235th birthday will again be celebrated in that most unique American way.
In celebration of the birthday of our country, race fans will again make that yearly American Pilgrimage to the race track, honoring not only the American birthday, but also our truly singular and beloved American heritage, dirt track racing.
This coming 4th of July weekend, all regional race fans are invited to see the very best open wheel racing in the Sooner State this Saturday and Sunday, July 2nd and 3rd, as all three divisions of the Lucas Oil American Small Car Series headline an Independence Day Special at Dutton's Speedway in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma.
As fireworks light the surrounding horizon, the Lucas Oil ASCS2 Outlaw, Non Wing, and Restricted divisions will tango their way around the fast semi-banked, 1/6th mile oval in their sole appearance of the 2011 Lucas Oil ASCS2 campaign atop Dutton's Speedway clay.
Becoming a firm fixture in the regional open wheel racing scene, Sapulpa, Oklahoma's reigning Lucas Oil ASCS2 Outlaw Champion Blake Hahn leads the Lucas Oil ASCS2 Outlaws into the Independence Day Double with Linsday, Oklahoma upstart Harli White 49 markers behind in the 2011 Lucas Oil ASCS2 Outlaw Championship chase.
Coweta, Oklahoma's Kade Morton follows the lead duo into the first Lucas Oil ASCS2 sanctioned event at Duttons Speedway in nearly two years following a washout of 4th of July ASCS2 racing in 2010.
A two time winner in 2010 Lucas Oil ASCS2 Non Wing competition, Oklahoma City's Trey Marcham leads the always exciting Lucas Oil ASCS2 Non Wing division into the Dutton's double. Glenpool, Oklahoma's Matt Ward haunts Marcham into two day event, trailing by a scant 8 points.
A fellow two time winner in 2011 ASCS2 action, Pauls Valley native and 2010 Lucas Oil ASCS2 Non Wing runner up Steven Shebester continues his 2011 assualt on the Non Wing crown, a mere 44 markers off Marcham's leading pace.
A sweeper of most recent Lucas Oil ASCS2 action at Port City Raceway, Coweta, Oklahoma's Chance Morton leads the Lucas Oil ASCS2 Restricted division into the weekend. On the strength of three 2011 Lucas Oil ASCS2 Restricted triumphs, Morton takes a stout 85 point advantage into the weekend over Atoka, Oklahoma's Austin Shores.
Following the first win of his young career in Lucas Oil ASCS2 action at I-44 Speedway, Shores enters the holiday weekend with hopes of gaining ground in his first Lucas Oil ASCS2 title assault.
Cyril, Oklahoma's versatile young talent Cord Dodson enters the fray third in the 2011 Restricted ranks, 133 points behind Morton's fast pace, but also with something of a home field advantage over the top two, as the 37 mile tow will be the shortest Lucas Oil ASCS2 haul of the 2011 campaign for Dodson.
The Lucas Oil ASCS2 Restricted invasion of Duttons Speedway will be met with fierce resistance on several fronts. A winner in most recent Duttons Speedway weekly Restricted 600 action, Lawton, Oklahoma's Brandon Boggs stands in strong defense alongside current Dutton's Speedway Restricted leader and Anadarko native Ryan Padgett.
The Lucas Oil ASCS2 Non Wing foray onto Dutton's dirt will see stiff resistance as well, such as Dutton's Speedway current Non Wing point leader Kyle Skaggs and Anadarko's hometown favorite Brent Venable. With I-44 Speedway taking the weekend off in support of the Independence Day showdown, many regional pilots can be expected to join the Lucas Oil ASCS2 showdown at Dutton's Speedway.
The Lucas Oil ASCS2 Independence Day showdown at Duttons Speedway begins Saturday, July 2nd at 8pm with pit gates opening to race teams at 5pm. The showdown concludes with a Sunday, July 3rd finale with gates to also open at 5pm and action to begin at 8pm.
