That man could drag the tubing off of a trailer, bend it, weld it, fit the components on, set the car up, and win with it.
And then build winning cars for others too. Legend
My Dad still talks about seeing him race in 1978 at the Indy dirt mile.

Most people involved in the sport today don't know the impact Toby had on this sport, Toby was the man whom proved to the racing promotors/owners/drivers/fans that it was safer to build a car/frame from new material instead of using a car frame from the junk yard & adding a roll cage. I had the opportunity over in the mid 80's to learn my fabrication skills from Scott & Ronnie( Toby's sons) both boys could build, set up, & race the cars they build. That is something that dosen't go on in the sport today.

Hear is another point about this picture. Davey Brown, & Davey Brown Jr are both in this picture, Davey Sr pushing the car at the right rear, & Davey Jr at the left rear.

I, Steve Huggins, when at Cam Dynamics until 1983 made cams for Kenny Weld, Jan Opperman, Toby Tobias, Bubby Jones, Rich Vogler, Gary Patterson, Bobby Allen, Doug Wolfgang, Lee James, Jack Hewitt & my wife's favorite driver - Rick Ferkel --- the list goes on & on. Nice to see some old pictures. Yes, those were the good days.
