Once again this year, the WoO website story (two stories) on the outcome at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks,ND called the track a 3/10 mile high banked oval. Record is 9.26, 116mph by Jason Meyers. Anywho, track operators/owners/leasees, all 4 of em, call it a 1/3rd, for 20 years anything I've ever read about the track says it is a 1/3rd, and one of the operators told me Sat night that the 1/3rd is from a measurement between the inside and the middle.
Does the WoO actually measure tracks? And if so, for what reason? For calibration or something? Also, if Eagle is a 1/3rd high banked track, then River Cities is probably closer to 3/10th, as it visibly looks smaller, and both are very close to the grandstands, i.e., your eyeballs. Maybe it is just easier for the locals to call it a 1/3rd, has a better sound than 3/10ths which you rarely ever hear about any track. Though Texas, Charlotte, Vegas and Nebraska Raceway Park are called 4/10th I think.
Two very very good nights of racing. Kudos to the track prep guys for both nights.

I would call it a fast exciting track but to even call it a 1/4 mile track is a stretch let alone 3/10's or 1/3'rd. Verify it yourself with Google maps, use the measurement tool click the icon at top right that looks like a gear. No way in this world it is bigger than a quarter mile as measured on the bottom raceable groove. Also the WoO mile per hour averages are based on the lap times and stated distance of the track. So if your clicking off 9 sec laps and claim that the track is a third mile well the "average" MPH just sounds impressive but in reality its just a load of bull.

3/10's on the outside, 1/4 on the inside, via google earth. Most tracks say they are bigger than reality. Eldora is .47 around the outside. Rolling Wheels says it is a 5/8(.625), however is .54 around the outside. The best is devil's bowl vermont, says its a half-mile but is only .38(3/8).

as far as i know, 3/10 mile IS 1/3 mile. they both mean the same thing. a third of a mile is three tenths. or as close as you are going to get. .333 compared to .300 or about 175 ft.difference. well maybe 175 ft does matter. lol.
