This was posted (below) today on my Rocky Point forum. I've been hearing rumors about if for some time now, and that the owners of Thunder Raceway in Show Low were putting it together.http://www.rockypointtalk.com/showthread.php?4354-Thunder-on-the-beach
Ok heres a little more of a tease. 4 divisions of racing will be coming for October 15, 16 the location will be the big hole in the ground that was to be the new marina out by the reef on the way to Cholla Bay. The owner of a race track in Arizona is building a professional style track with bleachers and all. The structure will be semi permanent since there is some possibility of the marina happening in the future but a guarantee has been given that in the event that the Marina is built that a race track would be built to replace it.
the four divisions are 1. Sprint Cars 2. USRA Modifieds 3. Mini Sprints 4. Dwarf cars
There will be sponsorships available and I will have more on that later.
The track owner feels that over 100 race cars will be here and Stateside attendees will be over 5000. The races will be advertised heavily in Mexico as well because there a lot of motorheads here and in Caborca and San Luis and Mexicali.
The next set of races will be February 18, 19 (off road trucks) Then March 24, 25th (Monster Trucks) There will be an appearance by Spanky Spangler for the Memorial day race next year.
The track is called "Thunder on the Beach"
This is a very good thing and has already been given all legal approval and the department of tourism is behind it both in spirit and with some cash. It will happen and it will be huge. I will keep this forum and others up-to-date on the progress and new news.....
Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

I go down regularly, and have friends who live there. In fact I just drove down two weeks ago to a place a 100 miles south of Rocky Point.... You have no idea about whats going on down there except what you hear on the news. This area does not have the problems that other places in Mexico have. There's been very few incidents from the border down and in Rocky Point, and none involving American citizens! I also know personally more than a few women who drive down by themselves, and have for years.
That said, I've been going to Rocky Point since 56/57, and right now the economy is trashed for a variety of reasons. Yes they have beautiful resorts (The Mayan Palace for one) and condo's, golf courses all that, but man it's bad right now. The way I look at it, I don't give a hoot. The development has ruined the fishing village I used to love anyway. That's why I went farther south a few weeks ago, to get away.
This is going to be interesting to watch.... I have more than a few connection's in Rock Point, and I'm connected most every day.
Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

If I hear about robberies, murders, beheadings, military patrols on the news on a near daily basis, I don't really care about what I don't hear on the news. I'm staying home.
