This is the second half of the season. These two were good friends as long as they raced. In 1969 Don drove the Wichita area thru 1974. I am sure that the two also race against each other there too. I can tell you that Don very seldom would visit anyone in the hospital. For he would visit Jack when ever a wreck would happen. One can see these two were most often close on the track. These two were more than likely two of the cleanest drivers to race in this area. DENNIS

Belk had some pretty wild flips at Topeka,,,one in 62 on the front straight in #37, Belk woke up a hour or so later at the hospital.they took some pretty close up shots of them pulling him out of the car while he was still knocked out.,and then he fliped 2 times in 1965 in the #97 of Luther Brewers..both times in the turn #1 or the middle of one and two turn they were about 2 weeks apart. The photo guy at the track was right there for both flips and got 6 or 7 shots during both flips .It was some very good photo work...That is something i need to put on here.Belk walked out of the second flip..But got carryed out of the first flip,,woke up a hour later.
Jack Belk simply had no fear in a race car.Belk had other flips at other tracks over the 21 year run.Maybe tell it on the next topic.
Then in 1971 in turn 4 at Topeka the flip that took his life.He died 5 days later in the same hospital he had woke up from other crashes..just before and after pictures on it.
The Sportsman ship of guys like Don Elliott,,Pappy Weld and clan ,,Luther Brewer,And guys around the pits like Sparky Carver, and even the fans like the Mosier family would show up at the hospital..Them people would do anything for you back then....Belk did win the Sportaman ship award at Topeka in 1965 and his car owner Luther Brewer that year was a good a sportsman that i have ever meet..
Win as if you are use to it.And lose as if you enjoyed
it for a change. Its hard to get to the top and alot
harder to stay there.
