The first 3 races of the Indiana Midget Week nationals were won by Darren Hagen, Bryan Clauson, and Kyle Larson...all of which cut their teeth racing at local California dirt tracks.
Darren Hagen of Riverside, CA began racing go-karts and mini-sprints at Barona, Perris Auto Speedway, and all around SoCal, before moving to Indiana to compete full-time for a living in both the National USAC Midget and Sprint divisions. Back from a recent back injury from a sprint car crash last October, Darren has wasted no time getting back up to speed and has seen the checkers twice already in 2011 in the #3 Don Fike USAC National midget.
Bryan Clauson raced quarter midgets and micro-sprints all over Central and Northern California before moving to Indiana to chase the dream of running at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway...a dream that was finally fulfilled this May. Bryan has also run several Nascar Nationwide Series stock car races for Chip Ganassi Racing and has a huge future ahead of him. In addition to running Indy Lights and USAC National Midgets, he is also co-owner of a National USAC Sprint car team and is always in contention in that division.
Kyle Larson is the latest of the California drivers to make big waves against the best in the Nation. He grew up in Northern California and dominated Outlaw Karting up north before straight up to winged 410 ci Golden State Challenge sprint cars. He now has a full-time ride in the Keith Kunz Bullet #67 midget. He won his first National Championship race last night at Bloomington Speedway. Kyle was a teammate to Clauson in his first attempt at the Tulsa Chili Bowl a couple of years ago and put a team car into the A Main with ease.
I've been saying for a few years now that these guys are ones to watch. Congratulations to all three for their recent and past accomplishments!
Way to represent Cali boys!!!
