This is from the article written by ASCS on the Sooner regions stuff this past weekend.
"Drown, who crossed the finish line third, was disqualified for a second straight night for failing inspection."
"Roberts and Freeman claimed victories in the two B Mains, with Roberts recording the win after Zach Chappell was disqualified."
And I'm also hearing that Brian Brown was disqualified for some reason also.
Does anyone have any insight on this stuff?

Drown was dq'd first night for having the nose wing to far forward, and the second night for illegal motor.
Brown was dq'd for unsportsmanlike conduct.

I think it's awesome. I wish there were more motor checks, especially in the 360 series. It's way too easy to cheat and it does make a difference.

If the people who run the series did there job after every race, just think how many big names would be caught for tryin to get an edge on the competition

Chappell had a nose wing violation as well.

Just to clarify it was me Randy Washburn that mounted the illegal wing on the car not Zach! We had built up an old chassis with some old wings for Jetmore's All School Reunion and Parade and had only measured out one set of posts. We had a wing come down in the heat race and mounted one of our spares and I did not check the distance. Again it was my fault and I new better, but it in no part had to do with my driver. I don't think it's awesome, but I do think its necessary.
Unfortunately, the American Sprint Car Series has lost control of the costs associated with their engine package. To be fair, so have a lot of other organizations. The root cause can be divided into two categories;
- Tech Inspection: The ASCS hasn't done enough in depth inspection. The ASCS needs to get serious about tech inspection; real serious. High profile teams should not be exempt!
- Competition: Engine builders are constantly trying to make their package better, faster, and ultimately more expensive. While cost isn't the primary target, the expense tends to inflate, along with the dyno numbers. Unfortunately the dyno and expense achievements are not linear. While the expense increases rapidly, the dyno numbers are less impressive. For example, it might cost $15k to produce 630 hp, while it might require $30k + to achieve 680. You get the idea...
The ASCS has experienced tremendous growth and has acquired and now governs multiple regions. With that said, their growth has exceeded their ability to lead, especially in the area of cost containment.
The ASCS has failed to keep up. They are losing the race! While engine builders and competitors insist on pricing themselves out of the market, the ASCS has failed to contain the "spill". Once a stepping stone to 410's and beyond, the ASCS now features a premium series price tag, that could eventually threaten their very existence.
Mark my words, the engine "bubble" is about to burst!

Surprised there weren't any dq's in the Gulf South this past weekend for unsportsmanlike behavior - there should have been. A few drivers don't know their place in this world.

It sounds like the rule book is actually being enforced more than it used to be.

Tech inspection is like drug testing for athletes to me... as long as its fair, I'm for it. What is fair? Setting up guidelines on who is teched & being consistent about it are of paramount importance.
The issue I've always thought has been how much time do you budget per car & how much $$$ do you spend for tech inspections?
It's kind of a joke to have a rule book that you don't enforce.
I don't like cheating... it goes against everything in me personally. Taking the short cut. Ingenuity, being smarter than the next guy, innovation... they push the limits. THAT is cool. 455ci motor... not cool.
Am I an adult version of a boy scout? Probably. Sue me. I like it when either people follow the rules or there are no rules and no one can cheat.

The fuel he was caught with wouldn't help him in any way so I wouldn't say its cheater fuel if it isnt helping him in any way. It messed up a motor is all it did, they ran tests they showed that it had racing gas in it, why would he put that in there? The fuel came from Tom Lorenz and that was where the fuel was messed with
