One of our employees, good friend, and fellow sprint car racer, Skip (Anthony) Jackson was just diognosed with stage 3 cancer. Skip has three young children at home. I have set up an account for him and his family to assist them with expenses so that this burden will hopefully be minimal. Donations may be sent to: BANK IOWA % MARSHA PO BOX 535 ALTOONA, IOWA 50009 ~ Your thoughts and prayers for him are deeply appreciated. Thank you so much!

I am proud to call Skip Jackson my friend. He is as nice as the day is long, and probably the most humble and caring person you will ever meet. I am not. He would never ask for this, so I am asking for your help and challenging you to do something to assist this fine gentleman and father of three beautiful children.

Shelley Kelderman has started collecting things for a fund-raiser and auction to be held at noon on June 11, 2011 at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum. We will be donating items from Chad Humston and the 1m sprint car.

We are collecting iems for Skip Jackson's Benefit Auction that will be held on Saturday, June 11th @ (noon) @ the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum. Please contact me if you have anything that you would like to donate & we will make sure to either pick it up or tell you where to take your items.

Per Debi Cox (Skip's Employer) "Skip will be seeing an Oncologist in Arizona on Wed, June 1st. This Cancer Center is the only one that accepts his insurance. He will have to take at least 4-6 and maybe up to 8 weeks off of work and as you know, losing wages will be detrimental to his family. Cox Design has made sure that he has enough in his health savings to cover his high deductible and we also pay for employee’s health insurance at 100%......that is at least one less thing for him to have to worry about; however mortgage, utilities, groceries etc. is a big worry to him right now. Stress will only make his recovery that much harder. Skip is loyal to this community as well. It breaks my heart each day to see him .........and the worry in his eyes".

Again, please let us know if there is anything that you would like to donate. Shelly @ 641-891-4909 or Judie @641-891-7432. Thank you again.

I know for a fact that there will be at least two autographed helmets at the auction. Speedway Motors was kind enough to donate two Bell Helmets - one for 360 drivers and one for 410 drivers.

Here is my challenge:

I am challenging three or more of you fine people out there to match my donation to the Trust Fund set up by Debi Cox at Bank Iowa.

I am personally mailing a check for $1500.00. This will help Skip cover about two weeks worth of expenses. He needs an eight week cushion so I am asking for at least three more people to come up with $1500 each. Can you find it in your heart or wallet to do the same?

God Bless you Skip - the world could certainly use more people like you in it - so I for one would like to keep you around.

Your sincere friend,

Mark Burch - [email protected] - 402-430-7187

Mark - Is that how a mailing envelope should be addressed? That address is kinda confusing and I'm not the brightest bulb on the tree. Any chance an online donation site could be set up?

Here is a picture of the Bell helmets that Speedway Motors so graciously donated. They will be signed by the 360 and 410 drivers and auctioned off at the benefit on June 11th. Thanks!

Afos – Aussie Friends Of Skip
Author : wade aunger

A routine visit to his family doctor for the flu has changed Skip Jackson’s life forever.
A pre-emptive blood test came back with an irregularity and in no time Skip was off to a specialist where he was sadly given the news that he had third stage prostate cancer.
Remarkably his doctor told him he was the youngest patient he had ever treated for the condition.
Skip’s not a person to lie down though.
Never has been.
Remember his gutsy recovery from that horrific Williams Grove crash?
He’s upbeat, he’s determined and he’s already on a mission to cure this condition and is travelling to Arizona where one of the world’s foremost medical centres on this disease is ready for him.
This week specialists will work out with Skip which treatment is the best for his condition and then proceed.
On Saturday night, June 11, the Knoxville Raceway will hold a special fund-raising exercise to assist one of it’s most popular Track Champions with what will no doubt be a difficult financial situation ahead for Skip and his kids.
The National Sprintcar Hall of Fame in Knoxville are coordinating an auction on the second floor with either bid items on offer or just the opportunity for people to make cash donations.
Here in Australia, friends and fans of Skip are rallying too, and so in conjunction with the Knoxville effort the initiative known as “AFOS” (Aussie Friends of Skip) has been formed.
Through www.sprintcarworld.com.au details will be released shortly of a long list of auction items donated by drivers, car owners and sponsors.
“The response has been amazing,” says Skip’s brother Paul Jackson, “we haven’t even finalised what we’re doing just yet and the phones and emails are going off the hook with offers of assistance.”
It’s hardly surprising.
The multiple WSS Champion, Knoxville Track Champion and Australian Sprintcar Title winner has won a legion of fans and a truckload of respect from his rivals for his humble and generous nature.
Skip’s been giving to his sport and his fans for over twenty years.
And now it’s time for us to pay back.
More information on the list of auction items or the bank account details for which you can make a donation will follow soon.
Funding raised from the AFOS initiative will go to Skip directly and allow him to focus on improving his condition and on the needs of his children.
Skip Jackson – a hero and a champion to many, and a friend who could really use our help right now.
Get yourself well Skip; we’ve got your back.
Ends release…

What a great person ...forget sprint cars and racing of any kind .... just one NICE person that will beat this.

Skip is a TREMENDOUS individual.....One of the nicest people I've ever had the chance to meet!!!! Not to mention a GREAT racer and ambassador for the sport. All of us at KNIA/KRLS are thinkin of you Skip and we wish you nothing but the best!!! We're doing what we can to promote the auction to our everyday local listening audience as well as during our race coverage to the race fans listening....Hope it's a HUGE success....By the way I'm obtaining an autographed Kyle Korver Chicago Bulls jersey from Kyle (not game worn) to donate to the auction plus I've arranged for Brandon Myers who is from just down the road in Prairie City and now plays in the NFL for the Oakland Raiders to make an appearence at the auction...he'll be donating some mini Raider helmets and pictures that he'll personally autograph for the buyer and may have some other items autographed by Raider players as well.....Hope that helps...Hang in there Skip!!!! Details Released For Skip Jackson Contributions
Author : “Aussie Friends of Skip”

It’s information that Speedway fans have been itching to get their hands on for the better part of this week. And tonight, it’s been released.
People or companies wishing to contribute to the “AFOS” (Aussie Friends of Skip) initiative can do so by paying funds into the following account or use paypal if you already have that facility set up.

Bank account:

Acct Name: Rae Jackson - AFOS

BSB: 062- 185

ACC: 10607672

Paypal: [email protected]

Contributions will be forwarded to Skip, who faces a difficult time ahead juggling the intensive medical treatment and recovery required, as well as parenting his three young children whilst he has time off work to focus on his health and his family.

Right now he is in Arizona at one of the world’s leading medical centres for prostate cancer where specialists are deciding which is the best treatment for Skip’s Stage 3 condition.

“I can tell you now that Skip has an enormous amount on his mind, but the news of what the AFOS group is planning and doing has given him an enormous boost in morale,” says brother Bob Jackson, “he’s genuinely overwhelmed and humbled by your generosity and well wishes. He’s upbeat and he’s motivated to make a full recovery. He’s got that Skip tenacity back.”

Skip’s Mum Maureen will travel to America shortly to be with him, and has also received some gratefully received travel assistance from loving and loyal long time friends.

Information will follow soon on Skip’s treatment, plus some of the auction items being provided by a wide range of people across the world.

AFOS members can also email Jennie Walsh to advise her that a financial contribution has been completed on their behalf though nobody is under obligation to do so: [email protected]

Skip and The Jackson Family greatly appreciate the wishes of love and support for Skip at this time.

More information soon…

If any of Skip's posse is reading this thread, have you thought about starting a Caring Bridge webpage (or something similar) so we can all follow along & send our well wishes from home?

On behalf of the Sydney Speedway Crash Crew may I pass on our very best wishes to Skip and his family. We have been very priveledged to have had Skip race with us over several years and he has always given 100%. If he focuses the same effort into his recovery as he does on his racing then again he will come out a winner.

Our thoughts and prayers are with them all during this trying time.

John Harriss

Jackson Family Items Added To Afos Auction
Author : A F O S

Over the years, not surprisingly, Skip Jackson’s brother Paul (one of four Skip has) has collected a fair amount of memorabilia that would look very cool hanging on the wall in a lounge-room, bedroom or bar.

Well some of that collection is being added today to the AFOS (Aussie Friends of Skip) auction from Paul’s private collection.

Paul gives a brief explanation of the various items:

RACE SUIT – definitely a collector’s item!

“ The suit was originally made for the USA Zemco Team but then Skip lost that ride and went to drive the Keen Motorsport # 53 in 2000.

HELMET – definitely a collector’s item

“The unmistakable Skip livery on this helmet makes it easily recognizable for many fans. It’s from the 1997/1998 Skilled Engineering #7 car.”

FRAMED CRASH PHOTO:

“It’s from the 1996 Classic – First of the of the first Heat. He’s in there somewhere underneath Max Dumesny and the #33 car. There aren’t many crash photos of Skip around.”

FRAMED PHOTO:

“It’s the Skilled 7 car: 1996 - Sponsors Skilled Engineering and Gibson Freight - taken at the Warrnambool Classic in qualifying.”

FRAMED PHOTO:

“It’s the Skilled #7 - 1997 - Sponsors Skilled and O'Brien Aluminium. This was taken at Bunbury WSS during a heat race win.”

SIDE PANEL FROM THE RACECAR:

“This is the Pennzoil Car # 7 from 1999. It still has the tyre mark on the side from a crash (not sure who's tyre!). Would look very cool mounted on a wall somewhere.”

These fabulous items are now added to the AFOS auction to be conducted later in the week.

More information on the auction time and operation soon.

Folks, every little bit will help! I have decided to stay home this Saturday and watch the Texas Indycar race on TV and donate the money I would have spent on tickets, food and fuel to Skip and his recovery effort. If everyone could find a way to dig a little deeper in tough times in order to help a humble man cope with an awful illness I'm sure we can get Skip throug this!
