Congratulations to Jason for another endurance win.. Despite all of the carnage and the multiple restarts after he was leaking water out of the motor, he hung on for the win... I hope everyone who was involved in all of the wrecks are OK... Sounds like Steve, Paul and KK took some wild rides. Also hope anyone in the stands that was injured is fine as well...
Was it a full moon or something? Was the track rutted that bad or something? Listening to this reminded me of the Erzburg Enduro! (If you don't know, google it and see some really wicked dirt bike riders)....

Basically, the track has been ruined by the current track owner. I think his intentions were in the right place, but the actual result is a ruined 1/2 mile.
I-96 is known for its half mile track. There is alot of sprint car history there in the state of Michigan. Former sprint car driver, Mike Mouch, bought the track a few years ago and started to make some changes.
He built a 3/8th mile track, and the banking actually comes out on the front stretch of the 1/2 mile. The front stretch is now very narrow. When we did a 4 wide lap, the inside cars actually had to ride over the ends of the banking. Coming out of four, and going in to one on the bottem is a blind move because of the banking. Not only is it narrow, you can not see ahead of you.
The WoO actually gave up at the end of the race, and did single file restarts because of the torn up cars on the front stretch. The catch fence is way too low, especially for a 1/2 mile. The owner needs to decide to run one track or the other. He has proven for five years now he is not capable of running both.

I got tired of waiting for the feature to start and went to bed...it's not like they had four divisions and it"s been dry for two months, wtf?
How to kill your chances of fans coming back, a one hour delay before the feature....

Found this on youtube. Look at the height of this fence. This wouldn't even hold a micro in. Kind of scary! - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SFJ8q7YUfA

even more scary, check out these kids standing right by the fence on the feature start. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-v-s9wHmalU
I never came on here to bash any track but this is pretty scary. I would hate to see anyone get hurt, fan, crew, driver, official. I sure hope they do something about the fence situation.

First off, congrats to Sides. Also Bill Rose had a good night, too bad it ended early. Some notes from a spectator's POV:
- The track looked a bit rough in spots due to all the recent rain. It was extremely dry on top however, and the heats were not very good racing IMO.
- It looked like Kraig Kinser's flip was caused by a shredded LR tire. I saw no contact with the 7L.
- Steve Kinser was spotted wearing a sling following his wreck. Anybody have any news on this? Collarbone? Wrist/hand?
- Reworking the track b4 Feature time backfired as it simply created an absolute dust and pebble storm the entire race. Near the end it finally got almost blown off.
- As already stated, the inner 3/8 mile track looks to have ruined the 1/2 mile. Local drivers have commented to this effect, I'd be curious what the WoO drivers think of the layout.
- The catch fence does indeed seem low compared to other race tracks. I think last night I would have felt safer strapped-in behind the wheel than in the stands.
All in all, it was still a fun night at the races, even though it was a late one. I'll never complain when I can see a good sprint car race. I hope people don't get TOO negative and instead recognize that even for the many small flaws through the night, it's still THE GREATEST SHOW ON DIRT!
