Well since the thread was locked on the quotes i wanted to add too it from over the years from some friends that race.

Leonard Lee-  "Yeah once in a while you gotta take a nasty ride and scare the hell out of the fans if you don't the fans start to think they can drive on of these things"

Jack Hewitt-  " Wings are for pussies, if they took the cage off tomorrow id still race"

Jan Opperman- After a very abusive rough race to the finish with Eddie Levitt at the Iowa state fairgrounds when asked by the announcer   Jan replied "   Eddie knows who ever is out front its his racetrack"

Leonard McCarl-  After me and my dad stopped by his shop after the "Champaign flight" I remember Leonard welding up a new race car in a wheel chair my dad asked how he was feeling and he said  "Doc said I can get out of bed in three month's"

Doug Wolfgang-   on his explanation of strategy in a sprint car race,  He said " unlike nascar and Indy where you go 500 miles and pit along the way if you make a mistake you can make up for it, most sprint car races last about 5-8 minutes so the best thing to do is to hold your foot down to the floor and hold on tight and see how long you can hold on"  or   "Hero today, Zero tomorrow.

Roger Rager-  When last year at the 4 crowns at Eldora in the champ car in turn one and he took a nasty roll his pit crew was visably upset, Fred Ayden the legendary 4J owner was yelling that he was cowboying the car to hard he was 12 inches off the fence in turn 3,  Roger snapped back " Nope I was 6 inches off the wall and it was enough"

Roger Rager- Beating Rick Ferkel a few years back at the masters classic.  Ferkel stated he was in a car that didnt fit him the cockpit was to small, and Rager was in a car that was built by Schnee for Rager,    " Roger looked at us in the pit and smiled after winning that night and hearing that line " He said Hell that car fit him just fine when he was a half a lap ahead in the race before i chased him down.

Jerry Crabb-    after Roger beat the guys at the masters he went by Crabbs pit and Jerry asked think you can still pick up a race car, Roger picked up the front of Crabbs car, Jerry said " Thats it im goin home, the guy kicks my ass on the race track now he's picking the front of my car up to his chin, Im beat."

Ralph Blackett-   For many years alot of guys didnt like running Knoxville it had claimed alot of lives and was thought of as a wild place     dad   asked  Ralph then why the hell do you race there,   Ralph replied " Well it beats staring a bull dog in the ass all week."  referring to truck driving

Karl Kinser- It was in a story in a magazing when Karl Kinsers favorite excuse of getting beat on the last lap of the nationals,   Opperman said"  I had a cold and my goggles had filled up with snot"

Jan Opperman-   Bob Trostle told me the story of racing in California and seeing Jan race for the first time it was a dustbowl, coudlnt see the cars or the track all you could hear was cars banging off each other and the fence, Opperman won and Bob asked how the hell did you win that race son,   Jan replied   " Well you could see the top of the lightpoles and feel the banking of the corners so I knew where i was at on the track."

Lloyd Beckman-  after flipping out of the park at Knoxville they asked him if he was okay, " Well when you can't win anymore you gotta be spectacular"

Ill think of more later Smile
