The clock is ticking folks. Soon Southern California will be 100% 360 sprint car racing. If that happens, no Oval Nationals, no Pacific Coast at Tulare, no Louie Vermeil Classic at Calistoga. It will all be gone. The rich history of half a century will be but a memory. The 20 plus entries from the Midwest each Fall that come to California to run Perris and Tulare will stop coming. (They don't run 360's in Indiana) The hero's from the Midwest that come to California throughout the year to run a race here and there are over. From Billy Wilkerson to Bob Hogle, Deano to Bubby, Gasman to the Tempe Tornado. There are a lot of passionate 410 nonwing fans in Southern California. Stand up and be heard. It's time to get everyone together and decide what is best for EVERYONE and not themselves. Time to make a change. Save the 410's! Sean Buckley

It is a very sad state of affairs for the 410 racing community. I hope the Kittle situation is the only one. Unfortunately, I do not think this is the case. Every one of the teams is has to be questioning their situation now. Should they continue to field a 410, or should they start looking at a 360? Do the spend the money to repair/refresh the 410 when it is needed, or is it going to be an obsolete bullet? 410 racing IS more exciting than 360, but at this point I guess racing is racing. 360 is better than WINGED "RACING".

Sean, its sad but true 410s are dead or dying in SoCal.I don't pretend to know what the problem is I can only speculate some of the problems as I see them are 1.weak scheduele (23 races what a joke) 2.low Purses 3. a total lack of promotion of any kind.I'm sure there are other opinions out there, lets hear them.

on the plus side in my opinion the promoter at Victirville has a golden oppertunity to fill the voids in the 410 scheduele,I don't know if he is in a finacial position to make it happen I hope he seizes the oppertunity

Well said Sean. Back in the day we had good car counts good purses & a full schedule to run we had a organisation that looked out for its owners & drivers but that all went away. I'm not going to get on here & bash the letters of any organisation but I will say this SCRA was one of the best if not the best association on the west coast when they were alive. Would the car counts be the same today or the purse paying the same hard to tell. But you did know one thing at least there was a organisation that would stand its ground for its owners & drivers. Like him or not Ron Shuman stood behind his organisation & tried to do what he thought best. Now I know some people will disagree with me on that & that is your right but from what I saw from where I stood he was doing what he thought best for the organisation that he was elected to run. I hate to say this but I do think that the 410's on the westcoast will soon be gone & that will be a sad day for the sport of sprint car racing as we once knew it.

I don't know who should get the credit for it. If I remember correctly under the SCRA all of the heats, B main and that silly six car passing masters race were all sponsored by some organization. It probably wasn't much money, but it helps.

Sean you also stated that they don't run 360s in Indiana I believe that is part of the problem out here on the left coast too damn many 360s all this does is delute the 410 pool just as the freakin Fidgets have ruined the midgets out west,if there were no 360s most of the people who run 360s would be in 410s

one more rant on the 360s if the 410 go in 2yrs the 360s will cost more than a 410 does today and they will still be racing for the smaller purse.

How about the USACSOCAL 360 series, oh no! Not another 360 series, how many are there in California 25?

Rob, The midgets have been a mess on the West Coast since Ascot closed! I don't think the Fidgets have done anything to ruin Midget racing at all. In all honesty, USAC allowing $35,000 engines has been the ruination of Midget Racing in my opinion. Joe

I dont see Pacific Coast Nationals on Tulares schedule for this season.

Callistoga is a CRA / Western States race not a national one anymore...

Maybe if the national series would throw the west coast a race or two people might get excited about booking the big shows. If I am hauling from Los Angeles to Calistoga I want more than a dozen CRA 410 cars. That trip means at least one, probably two nights in hotels along with food and gas... If my prospects there are seeing a terrible racetrack and 25 cars along with associated back trouble for driving that far vs driving an hour to Ventura with no hotel or associated meal costs and I get to see 30 odd sprint cars... I know where my money is going. I can do the Ventura trip five times on the cash one Calistoga trip puts me out and at least three times for the PCN Trip at Tulare. However, throw a half dozen or more national cars and Im packing up the car and making the long haul.
