does anyone airbrush cool designs on the tail tanks anymore? or does it take too much attention away from the number?

This is the only car that I've seen hand oainted in a long time. It's Todd Shaffer in the Camel Express 26 at last years Selinsgrove Jim Nace Memorial. Not one stinking decal.

Unless its a special deal like the Camel Express, I wouldn't airbrush or hand paint anything that could be easily destroyed. Vinyl is much cheaper, and quicker to apply.

Your mileage may vary...

Hand painting is just not worth it. These cars get so beat up during the course of a season that it is not practical to hand paint them. Asphalt cars can be hand painted, in fact many of them are, but dirt cars just get the crap pounded out of them. I won't pay a guy big $$$$$$ to paint something cool on the car only to get it torn up in mere weeks. Vinyl is the wave of the future, until a new cheaper technology comes along. It really sucks, but it is the reality.

I think you were asking about ambushed designs and not asking about hand painted numbers ,,,if so its totally up to you and if you think its worth the money ,,just remember cool intricate detail doesn't show up from stands very well ,but up close probably looks pretty sic , do what makes you happy

I would watch out airbrushing anything due to flying rocks, but if I were to do it...it would be something on the back of the car where rocks are less likely to hit. MY godfather had a 1500 dollar helmet custom painted a couple years back...you should see what it looks like now. Kinda like thrwing money down the drain if you ask me. People are bumping and banging in these cars and it takes a toll on the paint and fiberglass body. I would airbrush the sides of the frontwing those seem to take the least amount of damage from time to time. But I think that that would be awesome to airbrush the tank...if money is no option to you go nuts....its your money spend it how you want and dont let anyone tell you different. Just PLEASE dont airbrush rainbows and unicorns on your car please!! LOL

what i meant was now days all that it on the tail tank is the number! prolly cause its not big enough to do anything else on ? prolly would make the number look distorted from far away is my guess? im repainting my tail tank and thought about having my buddy airbrush some ghost flames on the top of it or something? prolly should just do the top cause doing something like that on the sides would make it look to clutterd up? not sure

thanks guys

Hand lettering is getting to be a lost Art...Anyone can slam a decal on...for some Old School Hand Lettering..they are far and few between......But they are still around.....www.AirbrushQuillSignShop.com

I still hand letter cars from time to time. But I take pride on my vintage stuff in making decals look like hand lettered cars of days gone by, right down to replicating old mistakes. But I am my own worst critic if you can tell, here is the ole' Jensen Const car that Jeff Swindell drove, if it wasn't for a misplaced wrinkle, it would be hard to tell from 5 foot back.

Later...Beef
