Good news here in AZ, a NEW track!! http://www.hoseheadforums.com/forum.cfm?ThreadID=54126 and . Robbie Allen who owns ABC Motorsports say's

"Any 360's from the coast, come on out and check out this new track. It's a great facility! Make a weekend out of it. The first event pays $1500.00 to win! Be a part of the first Sprint car race at the new Arizona Speedway! The opening day was attended by over 3000 people in the stands alone. Can you imagine the energy of that place? This is just what we need to help promote our sport. Many people have worked hard to make this event the best that it can be. Let's show our support for the owner's hard work and dedication. We hope to see you there.""

The racers want it, the fans want it, Arizona needs it, and our sport deserves it.

Well, I can unfortunately name two people that won't be there this time. Me, I'll be workin', and Chargin' Charles Davis Jr., cuz he's putting a wing on and going to Tucson. Tell me how it goes Kenny! See ya soon.

Sean,

Tucson

I think Charles could be charging into a management position with the Canyon division of ASCS when he unstraps for good. BIG GRIN! I think he'd run a hornet tomorrow night at USA if Kevin asked him too. NO GRIN

The scuttle butt is that though they've done nothing (ASCS) directly to interfere with this first Sprint car race, and the could have, their not exactly encouraging their members to race at AZ this weekend.

Keep your fingers crossed Sean, this could be the start of something really good out there. The track has lot's of potential, and when they get some good clay on it, it's going to be fast!

I hope they (ASCS and AZ Speedway) don't start a turf war. I love being able to just drive 20 min. and watch sprint cars, I usually went to Manzy just for the sprints because thats the only regular place they ran. Now USA is their regular track. I do realize you won't have to go so far now though. Right now the schedules don't clash, but next year? And its an off weekend so why does ASCS even care if "their" drivers go race other places? I smell trouble.

On a different note, what is an "open comp" sprintcar? What kind of rule package is AZ running with on these cars?

Tucson

At first some, heck most of us thought that it would be "open" as in 410's restricted, and probably some weight. Very much like they used to run the Roger McCluskey Classic and the open comp races up here in Prescott Valley, and now Victorville Cali too. Those rules would also allow the NMMRA boy's from over in N.M. to come over and run with us as well. It seems that when that idea was thrown out to the drivers and owners of some local teams, more than a few said they wouldn't run with a engine rule that would allow 410's no matter how equal they tried to make them. In short "open" ain't all that open. >> http://etmotopark.com/updates/rules/wwoc

Edit... It looks like the #77 ford that Ricky Johnson drove last year, and was deemed illegal by ASCS will be able to run there. No, I don't know why they banned it.

You know how we always try to get new people out to the track knowing that if there was a good show they would like it and come back? Now imagine that being pulled off in spades, but with only 14 Sprint cars, mini sprints and some bombers. The place was packed, and even with the small car count the people were happy with the exciting racing, and had a great time.

I did see something last night that made me realise how complacent some of us old hard core guy's have become... Tom Ogle flew over the rail in three with a little help, and when they announced he was OK (we couldn't see him) there was the usual applause and then silence. Tom then came into view again as he'd come back over the rail and started the long walk back to the pits along the front stretch. As he walked along the grandstands each section as he passed by broke into spontaneous applause. It was like a slow wave that ran the whole length of the front strech. I've never seen anything quite like it before... It must have made Tom feel a little friendly too, because he gave RJ Johnson a little wave as he passed by him as he was sitting on the track under the red.

Here's a good story with some pictures.http://www.abcmotorsports.com/azspeedway5-8-11.htm

Anf there's a thread or 3 about it here..http://abcteam.websitetoolbox.com/?forum=182443
