OCRS Sprint Cars Rumble Into Outlaw Motor Speedway Friday Night!!!
John Lemon / OCRS Staff
Tulsa, Oklahoma (May 2nd, 2011) – Outlaw Motor Speedway will
draw open the iron gates to their dirt track ranch this coming Friday night,
May 6th for the onslaught of Oil Capital Racing Series sprint car
warriors that will be galloping into town for an old fashioned shootout. OMS has been a regular meeting
destination for the OCRS drivers and this Friday night will be another meeting
of the clan at one of the most prestigious facilities in the region. This
particular gathering at OMS this week will be sponsored by Mother Nature’s Pest
Control along with Coors Light.
Although he has yet to visit
victory lane in just the first two races on the 2011 OCRS sprint car tour, Tulsa’s
Sean McClelland, who saddles up in the Timco Automotive / Carter-Davis Machine
/ Sagebrush Oilfield Services / Eagle chassis car, rides into town leading the
points chase after consecutive top five finishes. “Were doing what I thought we
were capable of,” said team owner Tim O’Toole. “While the good start is OK for
now, we know that you can’t be satisfied with a couple of good runs. Sagebrush
Oilfield Services came on board with us at the Lawton race (OCRS season opener)
and as an owner, it’s always great when someone takes a liking to what you are
doing.”
Lawton’s feature winner, Kyle
Cobb of Choctaw Oklahoma, enters his Four Generation Roofing / Schnee machine
second in points to McClelland, but just by a 16 point differential. Cobb is
making 2011 his first year of competing full-time on the OCRS circuit. Moore’s
Whit “The Gasman” Gastineau was victorious last week in the Shell Rapid Lube / Goodyear
Tire / Eagle car and is all set to make a full run at the OCRS championship.
Both men strolled into victory lane with their new Goodyear tires and last
week, the top five teams in the A Feature run down were dressed in Goodyear
outwear.
Outlaw Motor Speedway will have a
new surface that will await the OCRS warriors since their appearances last
season. “We put between 350-400 loads (of clay) on the speedway during the
off-season,” said OMS general Manager Eric Shannon. “The racing we have had
here this year so far has improved and I’m sure the teams coming in this week
will like it,” says Shannon. OMS will also have an Easter egg hunt for the kids
at intermission time as that promo is a rescheduled function from a night that
was rained out previously.
Teen Spirit:
For several years, sprint car racing was a tough mans sport that had few
teenagers in the cockpit. Then in later years, there became a flood of teen
males that began to threaten the common driver for their place in victory
circle. Today, its now teens of both genders that make their mark. OCRS has a
contingent of strong, determined and talented teen drivers that perform quite
well in sprint car racing.OCRS
members expected to compete Friday night include:
Kyle
Clark (17) Brady
Demeree (17)
Terry
Easum (18)
Kacee
Frazier (17)
Fred
Mattox (18)
Shayla Waddell (18)
While
all the above are looking for their first OCRS victory lane pose, Clark,
Frazier and Waddell have experienced such laurels in other arenas. Could a “speed
teen” make their first OCRS win at Outlaw?
Consistency, Consistency, Consistency:Stillwell’s Rafe Essary and Owasso’s
Matt Sherrell have won OCRS main events prior to this season. Each are bound to
do so again soon. What each of these men have a knack of doing best is
finishing consistently up front. Essary, with one feature victory , was third
in 2009 points while Sherrell was fourth with two wins. In 2010, Essary was
runner-up to OCRS kingpin, Jamie Passmore, with two wins last year. Sherrell
ran a limited 2010 schedule but finished in the top five in 6 of 10 events he
entered.
Wanted - 4 Leaf Clovers: In the two
OCRS events conducted, the “Bad Luck Club” had collected a few early members.
One of those being the 3 time defending champion, Passmore and Danny Smith as both
pulled out of the A Feature last week with mechanical woes. Whit Gastineau
pulled out of season opener and brother Beau lost a power plant before heat
races commenced at Lawton then fell short of a main event transfer spot last
week. Rookie contender Rob Hooper has found the going tough having been
involved in accidents in both features. Kyle Clark is still looking to crack an
A Feature line up and former OCRS champion Mike Goodman was frustrated with
mechanical issues last week in his OCRS season debut.
OMS is
located just 11 miles south of Muskogee on Highway 69.
Gates open
at 5:30 pm with racing underway at 8pm
OCRS participants
may register at the OCRS trailer upon arrival.
OCRS drivers
meeting begins after hot laps which look to fire at 7:30pm.
