George Tatnell Has Passed Away 13/05/2007 - wade aunger
George Tatnell has passed away.
With his family close by his side throughout the night, as they have been throughout his entire experience with cancer, the Australian Speedway legend died at 4.05am this morning at Sydney’s Calvary Hospital.
George’s legendary fighting spirit was intact right up until his final moments, and no doubt some stories about that incredible spirit will surface in the days that follow.
For now, it’s time to have a good cry, have a few laughs (when you recall some of the totally unique “George” moments) and remember Australian Speedway’s greatest showman.
A hero to tens of thousands, and with an adoration of course burning even more intensely for his family and close friends who loved every inch of that cheeky, passionate, outspoken, determined, courageous man.
Brooke phoned this morning, and would have made his Dad proud as he bravely struggled through the call.
On behalf of the Tatnell family, he’s asked for a couple of things from friends, fans and the Australian Speedway family…
Please don’t send flowers, there are plans being put in place for a more meaningful alternative.
Please give the family a bit of time and space for grieving.
Simple requests from a family brought up on simple values from a loving husband, brother, father, uncle and grandfather.
Information on the week ahead will follow soon.
It’s hard to believe, that dazzling cheeky grin is no longer with us.
Rest in peace GT…
