At last I was able to kick off my 2011 racing season up at the Ogilvie Raceway on Saturday evening April 23. When I arrived it was overcast and 48. The sun did come out about an hour before it set, and the temp might have bumped up a few degrees. The wind was from the NW and was not a factor for many of the fans, as it was either at their backs or blocked out somewhat by the building. The track held up very well I thought for an opening night with only one rut/bump exiting turn two on the lower side that developed about midway through the program. The racing was very good. The car count was very good at 129 with 37 MWMs, 24 Mods, 19 Supers, 17 Streets, 17 Mod 4s and 15 hornets. Crowd was decent but not large.

Feature winners included:

Midwest feature top 5: S. Estey, B. Martini, D. Ebert, D. Wheeler, S. Sabraski

Supers feature top 6: D. Eischens, D. Mass, D. Gullikson, D. Read, J. Anderson, M. Loomis

Streets top 5 J. Pogones, R. Debernardeaux, L. Sorrell, Laney, K. Peterson

Mods top 5: J. Jensen, K. Estey, C. Wagamon, J. Voigt, B. Jensen

Mod 4s - Rob Van Mil was the winner.

Hornets - All I can say is a black/orange #31 won the race.

Racing program was done around 10:45pm. Very good show. Hope the track is somewhat similar when the UMSS sprints are at the Big "O" in two weeks on Saturday night May 7. Hopefully the temp will be about 20 degrees warmer too. :-)

Actually third MN track, since Fairmont and Elko each ran one show prior to Ogilivie. Hope this weekend several more tracks can open their seasons.
