2007 Wilmot Speedway
Season Opener
Saturday, May 12th, A Feature #1

First Heat (8 Laps)
1. Jeremy Schroeder [2]; 2. Patrick Haynes [4]; 3. Kirk Fehrman [3]; 4. Sean Becker [1]; 5. Kris Spitz [5]; 6. Johnny Fahl [6].

Start: Schroeder takes the lead down the front stretch to lead all laps. Lap-2: The field is pretty much situated spread out in line as Fahl and Spitz exchange 5th a couple of times.

Second Heat Race
1. Dave Moulis [1]; 2. Scott Semmelman [2]; 3. Darrell Dodd [3]; 4. Scott Lenz [5]; 5. Mike Dubs [6]; 6. Adam Schroeder [4].

Start: Moulis leads Semmelman and Spits out of turn 2 and all laps. Again, by Lap-2 the field is situated as Lenz was closing on Dodd but not a serious threat to take the spot.

Scott Lenz wins his 1st career Sprint Car Feature.

A Feature (20 Laps)
1. Scott Lenz [2]; 2. Darrel Dodd [4]; 3. Scott Semmelman [6]; 4. Kris Spitz [9]; 5. Adam Schroeder [12]; 6. Kirk Fehrman [3]; 7. Johnny Fahl [11]; DNF-8. Jeremy Schroeder [7]; DNF-9. Patrick Haynes [5]; DNF-10. Dave Moulis [8]; DNF-11. Mike Dubs [10]; DNF-12. Sean Becker [1].
Lap leader: Scott Lenz 1-20.

Initial start was waved off by Officials. Becker appeared to not take off a well as Lenz did. Restart: Becker is having some issue, he is just not taking off with everyone, the field splits him down the front stretch and into turn 1. Lenz powers out of turn 2 with the lead. Lap-1: Yellow flag to clear a tangle of Moulis, Dubs and Becker on the low side of turn 2. Becker is towed to the pit as Moulis restarts. Dubs is around the track under caution and then ducks pit side. Restart: Lenz back to leading the field as Fehrman washes above the banking through turns 3-4 and loses ground. Lap-4: Moulis calls it a night and ducks off. Lap-7: Lenz seemingly in control of a single file chase.
Lap-11: About as Lenz was going to hit slower traffic, Haynes slows around the track and finally stops on the backstretch out of turn 2. He would not restart. Lenz would lead Semmelman, Dodd, J. Schroeder, Spitz, Fehrman, Fahl and A. Schroeder back to the green with Dodd taking 2nd out of turn 2 on the high side. Lap-16: Yellow flag after Fehrman slides off the banking over turns 1-2 which helped Semmelman who had just slid off that spot earlier and lost ground trying to take back 2nd from Dodd, who was closing through turns 3-4 on the low line, but Lenz was getting bite off the corners really well. Another late yellow ended the night for J. Schroeder who washed above turns 3-4 and slowed on the frontstretch. Lenz was able to hold off a closing Dodd with good-off-the-corner speeds using a red hot rear brake rotor and busts a novice ‘Chesson 720’ cloud dusting celebration in his 1st win in his 8 years of racing.

What up mooner....Pit pass 30.00 clams.... Front gate 15.00... Not sure to win but i think still 750.00...

Yup 12 sprinters on hand...Seems most of the car counts were slacking though in all divisions... I know My division was missing 4 guys due to still not ready and other obligations...

How was the crowd there Saturday? At $15 for 12 sprints while Knoxville had 51 410 sprints and 37 360 sprints for $12 I think something is a little out of wack here.

At $15 for 12 sprints while Knoxville had 51 410 sprints and 37 360 sprints for $12 I think something is a little out of wack here.

I gotta hit up the Henderson / Oswalt team and ask for some Focus Factor.

I am all out of whack as well. Last Sat. drive 8 hours round-trip on a $3/Gallon tank of gas just to get there and it washed out. So last week, I'm thinking, I can still make 75% for IRA by hitting a good portion of the remainder of the season so I'll catch up with them when they come back home.

I head over to Wilmot and about as I get to the gate, an older fella sees the Sammy shirt I had on and says to me something to the effect of :

"You here to see Sprints, there's only 12-and it's $15 to get it, (expletive) this I am going home..."

I told the guy, "Well, you really only need 2-3 to make a race...." But the $15 was a shock as I don't find entertainment value in the other classes that are run.

Apparently there are some unresolved issues between Promoters-LMEI (Local Motion Entertanment Inc.) of Wilmot and the Wilmot Sprint drivers. It's one of those "This side says one thing-the other side see it this way, kinda deals".

I am not "juiced-in" there and have no intention of getting involved with anything at Wilmot other than support of the Sprint Racers who choose to race there as some of them are friends and only they decide what is best for them. It's not my facility and I own no team, but I support those strap in and put on a show. If Sprint Car Racing stopped at Wilmot though, I would never return obviously.

A big part of the problem with Wilmot is the way they treat people, they are a bunch of backyard hill-billies who think they can muscle the competitors around. They act like they are the only game out there which is totally incorrect,if you have a sprint car or IMCA you can go other places to play.

Nick what happened to your car at Wilmot? It said you were leading at one point? Are the mini sprints racing Saturday with the IRA? Wilmot will have a ton of IRA sprint cars this weekend. It will be a good show. See you tommorrow.

Thanks for posting. People who run the tracks website should take a lesson from you. What they put out is unacceptable.

What up...No wasn't leading yet but was dam near getting there...Rear sprocket ripped out of it... We are running up at Manitowoc this weekend... I tried to get us on the IRA dates due to it being a good chance to get the mini sprints more exposure to a open wheel fan base BUT no dice on any IRA shows at wilmot...It would be nice to get more people interested in these little suckers!...

Hey Nick.....I wish you guy's were running at Wilmot too.I think most fans in the stands would rather see the mini sprints too. Any reason you guy's don't run with the IRA at Wilmot? I see the mods are running, another long show tonite then. Nothing against those guys, but takes forever with that class. My Wife is a hell of a race fan, long drives, high prices, rainouts she can handle, but when the mods run at Wilmot, she goes to the car to read, use the phone, etc. does that tell ya anything, lol. Good luck at Manny tonite.

Hey Mooner. Maybe she needs a break from you? Just kidding. The mods are a yawner there.Would be cheaper to have minis and better show. C you tonight. Come down by the car after the races if you can stand to wait for the mods to end.
