Just a reminder that this Saturdays KWS race at Ocean Speedway starts with Qualifying at 4:45pm.
Also a question. Does anyone know if this early start time is due to the recent struggle with noise complaints?
My personal opinion is that it will actually help the surface as it is typically wet and heavy but just curious as to the decision to start early. Thanks in advance for any info.

Good, maybe it won't get called early due to curfew like last week in Tulare.

I guess I didn't know that they started Saturday shows earlier then Friday shows. Thanks for the insight. Fortunately, unlike some, I've never witnessed a race that was "called" early and I hope I never do. Any predictions on the winner? I'm going with Tarlton. Which reminds me of a different topic. At one of the races I went to last season (360) I was looking at tires after the race, tommy had a 94" left rear on (11" of stagger), I was amazed. I myself was thinking that I would start with a 90" LR (15" of stagger), which is what almost everybody else was running including race winner, TK. Maybe a 92" if it slicked off, but a 4" decrease in stagger is astonishing to me. I suppose the obvious benefit is corner exit, and straightaway speed (and killer wheelie's), but how is he getting his car to rotate in the corners, what is he doing to his chassis set-up?? Anybody have any knowledge on this. I know most guys are running 9"- 11" of stagger at Knoxville. Ocean, Knoxville...quite a difference in corner radius. I'm done now. Thanks.

just because a tire has a casing size on it doesn't necessarily mean that is what it rolls out to. tommy's RR could have been 106 and the LR 93 when rolled out. i have seen actual tire sizes be an inch or so in either direction compared to the casing size. also maybe 11" of stagger was what the car and driver needed on that night. the other option is that they missed the setup and had the wrong stagger! getting down to 11-13 or even 10 inches of stagger at ocean is not uncommon at times.

Thanks for the insight, BRR. I have experienced that as well and am often surprised at how frequently the tire measurement is different from the stamp (especially goodyears). It still hard for me to wrap my head around running that small(in my eyes) amount of stagger at that track but, thats just my experience and i know there are many different set-ups out there, none of which are right or wrong. Tommy did lead the race for awhile but was eventually passed and I believe he fell back a couple more positions, that's why I looked specifically at his tire, it looked like he had his hands full for the last ten laps. Live and learn, thanks again.

So what is the racing like at Ocean. I am in the area and trying to decide if I should make the drive. Will it rain how cold is it going to be? Thanks in advance.

If you're in the area you won't go wrong with a trip to Ocean. Good racing and a well run program. No rain but it can get chilly.

The trip to Ocean is well worth the drive. You will see the best sprint car drivers on the West Coast and then some. Plus, Ocean is a very racy track with two groves in a beautiful area of Cali. If I still lived there, that is where I would be Saturday night!
