They had this odd race from Bristol Speedway on Speed channel Saturday afternoon, actually not a race but running against the clock, one car at a time. Several cars set time trial records in various categories. Tony Stewart had a non-wing sprint car that participated with its highly-visible Chevrolet decals on all sides. I noticed that Gaerte Engines was the primary sponsor of Jason Blonde's winged sprint car. A large Gaerte Engines decal covered both sides of the car, and this is the car that set the over-all record of nearly 145mph in 13.2 seconds, but next to the Gaerte Engines decal, also on both sides was a Blue Oval Ford decal. I know that Gaerte does a lot of work with both Mopar and GM V-8s and that Roush-Yates does the bulk of the sprint car work for Ford. I find out today from Steve Graham of Gaerte Engines that the engine in Jason Blonde's car was a brand new Gaerte Chevy. He thought that Ford had done some sponsorship deal to get their logo on the car.

Ford got a lot for what they gave to be sure. Because Blonde wacked the wall on his first attempt, the crew spent considerable time welding on the back right side of the car to prepare for his next attempt. Speed channel cameras spent a fair amount of time showing the work being done on the car, along with the very very visible Ford decal.

I know that team played around with Roush Yates engines last year before going back to Gaerte, but not sure why they had a Ford logo on a Chevy powered car. Maybe it was just leftover from sitting on the car last year?

The Bristol Speed Trials was sponsored by Ford and Don Wilshe was nice enough to display the Ford decal on his car for allowing his team to be part of the program. Good luck to Jason Blonde and the whole Biobased team this weekend at Salem for the opening race for Must See Racing Series.

I watched a re-run of the show in the middle of the night. Surprised the Superbike could only muster a 99mph. As far as the Ford Decal deal: not the first time it happened. Many years ago when Ford was helping Jeff Swindell build a Ford motor program, the Swindell team threw a bowtie motor in on several occassions when trying to iron out the Ford or when it wasn't running competitively. I have the 1/18th 104+ diecast and the Blue Oval is on both sides as well as the front wing.

More ironic was the Knoxville Nationals the year the Iowa Ford dealers sponsored them. Required that every sprinter have the Ford Blue Oval decal somewhere on the car. I remember being in the pits trying to find the decals that some teams had sort of hidden. Under the wing, on the inside of the wing, in the cockpit, etc. Many in the crowd went home thinking Ford motors were in most of the cars. Most though knew the truth. Sort of like subliminal advertising.

Detroit, Seattle, Chicago, Minnepolis, etc. We saw it.
Burning hundreds of buildings, a thousand assaults and
dozens of murders. Getting worser and worser.
