Ocean Speedway racers please take note. there is a strong attempt to stop racing at the track.
please see the info at www.oceansprints.com
also note that strict enforcement of the 95 DBA @ 100 ft sound limit will be in effect.
it is very impotant for everyone to be aware what is going on.
thanks.

Best wishes to you folks out in Cali. I hope you guys survive this. We have a similar situation at a track here in Ohio and it's all but destroyed what was once a great facility.

Good luck to those who are fighting the good fight to save this facility.
We had a similar situation here in IL prior to the owners passing at Sante Fe speedway in the Chicagoland area. That poor family was harassed with law suit after lawsuit by the Nimby folks in Burr Ridge about the noise. Never mind that the track had been there since 1902 and began racing cars in 1942. Many, many years prior to their moving in.
We here are hoping that you can save this track and preserve another racing venue.

Ocean Speedway is my local track, and hearing this news saddens me, maybe even makes me angry. This Max guy sounds like a bright one. Move your house near a race track and then bitch because it's too loud?? I'm surprised it's still so loud for him given the sound proofing that his ass is providing for his head. I for one will be contacting the fairgrounds to see what I can do to help. I encourage everyone else to do the same.
I understand this isn't the first and won't be the last but Ocean is the only track within 100 miles of here that races sprints and it would be a shame to see it go.
Hey Max, I hope you didn't bolt that old house to the foundation yet!

Hey, I don't know if this would help, but I know that I am tired of seeing these tracks disappear. Could you find out what a pit pass costs at this facility for a sprint show. Maybe a pit pass purchasing campaign could give the track owner a bit more $$$$$$$ to fight this jacka%^! I would buy a pass, and I bet if more folks on this board would agree to do the same we could help save this joint!
Just a thought, but I would seriously do it. They would have to send me my pass however! LOL
Jim Clark..........I chose Pit Passes because they are generally a bit more than a grandstand ticket.

thank you for your interest in helping. while i am sure the promoter would love the extra money, and i am not trying to discourage you from buying a pit pass (lol) i would say that sending a letter in one of the means outlined in the article to show your support would be nice. even if you are from out of the area and have heard about ocean speedway and have something constructive to say. here is the information for those wishing to support the fairgrounds.

or the racers could simply meet the noise level requirement that has existed for the last 20 years...always nice to be a good neighbor

if it was just about noise and that simple, things wouldn't be so bad. they are using noise as an excuse. i would say 99% of the cars are and have been meeting the noise requirement.

Another jack-ass who has no clue! Don't you live in So-Cal? How would you know what the noise level is? Trust me I have been there more then a few times and they keep a good hand on the noise and duration of the show. This is some smug pompous asshole who moves to area where the track has been there long before him and bitch's about noise. Anyways support the track and send signed letters in support of the fairgrounds to stop this man's mission of destroying another track in the U.S.
Trophy Cup......Best race of the year hands down!

Yep, I agree 100% with rj5150. These are the same type of folks who move in next to the airport and then complain about the noise. They are clueless and want the world to change for them. Actually, most tracks, at least here in crappy old ILLinois, were there long before the jerks. Just really tired of people trying to throw their weight around. This is a BIG country, this yo yo could have moved his house anywhere, but he chose to live next to the track. The problem is HIS, not the tracks. Especially if the facility is meeting the sound requirements. There comes a time when being a good neighbor no longer enters into the equation!

I am saddened to hear that another track is in trouble, especially another fairgrounds track. Unfortunately, there are professional NIMBY's that choose to move in right next to these places, and it is not the fault of the racers or the promotors. The promoters and racers do make good faith efforts to meet the db limits. But in the last 30-40 years, people have moved into the areas surrounding the racetracks and almost immediately complain of the noise. The law is generally on their side, unfortunately. I find that the law and economics movement that has worked its way into property and nuisance law has been a huge obstacle for racetrack owners. Idk about you, but I think that the old law that barred recovery or relief when a person came into a nuisance was spot on.

Ocean Speedway was my local track before I moved to PA, and what a turn around the facility has made. It would be a shame to see it end. Hopefully it all works out.

That yuppy POS probably got the land cheap because it was close to the racetrack, and if he gets it closed, he'll probably sell the house.

we are not just talking about a race track. we are talking about a county fair grounds that hosts many other types of events, not to mention a county fair. it is my understanding that the revenue that racing brings into the fairgrounds is second only to the fair itself. the state has pulled funding for the county fairgrounds, so it needs to support itself to exist. if it can not do that, it will have to close. that means no more horse shows, no more 4H or cattle shows or exibits, no more dog shows, no more flower shows and no more county fair, and no more animal boarding.
