Brandon "Wolfgang" Spithaler. WOLFGANG?? Seriously!?! Am I the only one who is struggling with this nick name?
I got nothing against Brandon, I don't know him. I don't know anything about his driving ability, but calling yourself Wolfgang seems a little "over the top".

Our screen names aren't featured in a front page press release. Most of the time, our screen names, e.g., "aggitated ferret", are intended to be sarcastic, per your suggestion.
With that said, if Brandon had picked a nickname like, "Badass Brandon" or "Super Spithaler", I probably wouldn't have noticed, but using the name Wolfgang is a serious proposition.
If you're going to call yourself Wolfgang, you better be prepared to live up to such a promise. Either that or names like Wolfgang are better left unsaid and undone.
Just my opinion folks. I think the Wolfgang adjective was a mistake!

What makes you think he picked his nickname? Most nicknames that stick are given by someone else. In fact, if I know that someone picked his own nickname, I will refuse to call him by it.

Jon,
I understand; I agree with your post.
Perhaps Brandon didn't pick his nickname.
I still think "Wolfgang" should be off limits.

I don't know anything about the kid, but who says he's not "prepared to live up to the promise?" How many guys have taken on the moniker "Wild Child?"

"Wild Child" isn't someones personal family name either.

MK4K,
Now you're being silly!
Robbie will always be a Wolfgang; he's blood. He doesn't have to earn it, he was "grandfathered in".
Brandon on the other hand, isn't a Wolfgang and he doesn't have Wolfgang's talent. And even if he did, another nickname would be more appropriate!

We could start a list of overused sprint car nicknames (i.e. ones that have been used again and again by drivers throughout the country):
- Mr. Excitement
- Showtime
- Hollywood

Did it ever oocur to anyone that "Wolfgang" was a name given to him at christening by his parents? The name Wolfgang was around a long time before Doug made it famous
Oh, and I guess you've never hear of "Wolgang" Van Halen; he's Eddie Van Halen and Valerie Bertinelli's boy...

Sprinter25,
If Brandon's parents gave him the name "Wolfgang", during a naming ceremony, such as a baptism, then I concede, I was wrong.
But if Wolfgang is a self proclamation, or if an uninformed race fan and or announcer calls the boy Wolfgang, then I think it's a mistake.

Where does it say anything about his "nickname" having anything to do with a previous sprint car driver? I suppose Wolfgang Puck the famous chef has to change his name now too? Can't you people find anything else to get your panties in a bunch?
do it in the dirt
