As many of you may have received, I got an email this morning from USAC talking about a REDUCED payout for CRA races at Perris. See below if you are unaware of this.
1st - $2,000; 2nd - $1,000; 3rd - $750; 4th - $650; 5th - $500; 6th - $475; 7th - $450; 8th - $425; 9th - $400; 10th - $400; 11th - $375; 12th - $350; 13th - $325; 14th - $300; 15th - $275; 16th - $260; 17th - $250; 18th - $240; 19th - $230; 20th - $220; 21st - $210; 22nd - $200.
This doesn't look good! I have been kicking rocks around at the racetrack an overheard some people talking about purse size already. Some have stated they would race for anything less. Well now, less has come. This will effect the car count this weekend? I think so. Some guys rely on weekly winnings to make the next show.
Furthermore - Three days before the race! Three days before the Season Opener! Really? With the elaborate staff at USAC headquarters (IE web site staff that takes about a week to post results) they were able to hash this out THREE days before the season. Heck, I thought the Federal Government was having a tough time negotiating the budget.
Share your thoughts! Tell the powers above what you think. Please don't hold back. People need to know.
Usac: Did any of the drivers / teams know about this before today, or are they being blindsided by this news today also?
Sadly Disgusted Jim.

This was emailed to me yesterday. The one thing I am "curious" about is if USAC lowered the cut they take home with them to Indiana and/or to pay officials here on the Left Coast?
I understand the economics of racing but you gotta keep the tracks open and the car owners happy. Nowadays, I dont know if that is at all possible!

USAC actually looses several thousand at each CRA show at Perris. There is no money going back to Indiana. its actually coming from Indiana!

I know this is apples and oranges.
Ascot in 1990 purses averaged a little over $12,000 not including events when sponsors would boost the purse and special shows.

It seems to me USUC should be doing everything to promote the sport we all love and nothing to hurt it.
Adding Hictorville was a step forward.
Lowering purses is two steps back, it hurts the sport.
Anyone with common sense knows if everything costs more to race and the money you race for is less, something has to give.
I cant wait to get back to Perris to see the friends and the racing I love so much.
See y'all on sat.
P.S.
Bring someone new with you, maybe they will get hooked too!

Once in awhile I read a comment or opinion by someone that makes me ask: "What in the world did he just say?" This is one of them

Whats really amazing is that they have raised the price of a pit pass up 5.00 bucks for both members and non members and yet also lowered the purse,as usual the racers pay more to get less, and they wonder why they're short on cars. I guess we really are racing for are own money.

Well I know of a couple team's that aren't going to pay more to get less and are parking their car's. As a fan of non-wing 410 sprint car racing I hope this isn't going to be a popular trend.
