The Human Highlight Reel Geoff Ensign has waited, worried, dialed, talked, waited and dialed some more this last offseason as he went into it without a ride for 2011. The 21 year old masher never stopped burning up the phone lines, searching for that elusive seat for the 2011 season, and the hard work paid off for the Sebastopol native as he secured a deal in January to run the Civil War 360 Series with Dave Vertullo in his potent Starr Property Management/North County Plastering 83v. To pile on the good fortune, Ensign also shook hands with Ted Finkenbinder, owner of the familiar flaming black 3f Sprint Car and has a partial Wingless ride for parts of the 2011 season as well with the newly formed Western Classic Racing Series. With that group running half of their races on dirt and the other half on pavement, Ensign will be expanding his horizons by driving on the hard stuff for the first time.
This upcoming Friday, Ensign will open the curtain on his 2011 season and be at the controls of Finkenbinder's 3f on the first night of a two night show as Chico's Silver Dollar Speedway kicks off their season with the John Padjen Classic, a night of Wingless racing USAC style with the Western Classic Racing Series Sprint Cars and USAC Mopar Western Midgets.
"I told everyone who would listen I was looking for a ride, and it didn't matter with whom. I had to actually turn down a Spec seat and that was tough because we had some good success last year but when you have a chance to move forward in this business, you have to take the shot." Ensign said almost apologetically.
From zero cars to drive at the end of last season, uncertainty and looking at watching from the sidelines to two cars to drive in 2011, Ensign knows he'll be busy. "I can't wait." says Ensign, not worrying about anything but going fast now.
