Okay race fans, I need a little advice. I may be into Palo Alto, CA from Lincoln, NE on the weekend of March 26 and am looking for a sprint car race to go to. Would you recommend going to Petaluma Speedway or Antioch Speedway? They are about the same distance from Palo Alto so what do you go to? I have never been to either track and want/need to see a sprint car race. I appreciate your help.

Go to Petaluma. The town is much nicer and the track has a gumbo surface that you rarely see. Pretty much hooked up all of the time. Plus the drive from Palo Alto will take you over the golden gate bridge so you can get tourist stuff in as well. The wingless spec sprints are not bad with the late models.

For a good pizza stop by old chicago pizza in downtown Petaluma.

Ditto. Into beer? Lagunitas is essentially across the freeway from the racetrack and it's hard to find better beer or a cooler spot to hang out than they have. You are far less likely to get robbed, molested, or shot at in Petulama as well.

If you're available that Friday, head down to Ocean Speedway in Watsonville for the Taco Bravo sprints. You'd likely see a more stout field than the other two places. Of the other two, Petaluma is a better bet than Antioch.

I agree with SVMike Ocean Speedway in Watsonville is a great track to watch races and its their opening night for the 360 sprint cars. Saturday if you have time to travel, Chico is running 2 nights Friday and Saturday - Silver Cup 360 sprints - 2 separate shows. So Ocean on Friday and Chico on Saturday would be your best races to see races at 2 different tracks. Antioch and Petaluma you could be disappointed in the car count. It is their local drivers and they get around 12 cars - could be less with Chico running a big show. The top 360 drivers will be at Chico - Silver Dollar Speedway.

4u,

Petaluma doesn't have 360s that night. We open our season with Wingless Sprint Cars, Late Models, Super Stocks and Dwarf Cars. Jim won't book on top of other "big" shows. Pick a division: 360 Civil War, Silver Cup, West Coast Late Model tour, Dwarf Car Nationals, Joe Hunt Magneto Wingless Sprint car tour races...Check the schedule. Petaluma Speedway supports those shows by not taking business away from them and running that same division on the same night. And you thought making a schedule was as easy as saying "Let's race this on this night."? Smile

I assume you'll be in town for a track meet. If so, it may depend on what time you're able to break away.

While the distance may be similar, travel time would probably be less to Antioch than to Petaluma. Oh, and be prepared to pay $4.00 per gallon for gas.

I pretty much agree with Mike......if you can get out of Palo Alto before 2pm head to Chico. If you can leave before 4 go to Petaluma. If latter than 4 head to Antioch.

Chico s/b running 410's and have the better car counts and racing. Antioch should have a decent 360 show maybe up to 20 sprinters??? I would be surprised if theres more than 12 Spec sprints at Petaluma. Super Stocks at Petaluma can be a very good supporting class.

Bring extra blankets and coats!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all of your help and advice. I should know next week if I am going to make the trip. I will not be able to leave on Saturday until about 4:00 so that may be the deciding factor. I'll really have to check into seeing Ocean Speedway on Friday as well. We will have to see what happens next week.

Thanks again.
