According to their website Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon Missouri will not have races this year. Big blow for Sprint Car racing in Missouri.

This is a huge hit of bad luck for 360's in Mo.

Horrible news. I have gone to several races every year at Lake Ozark and the crowds have always been great, as well as the facilities and racing.

24 Raceway, Missouri State Fair Speedway and now Lake Ozark not racing for the year in Mid-Missouri.

This leaves XX speedway as the only weekly 360 track, and they don't usually start until late in May.-Great little track, but Sunday nights don't work for a lot of fans or drivers. This is really a bad deal for sprints in Mo. this year.

I have only been to XX Speedway a couple of times and witnessed Jesse Hockett lap almost the entire field both times.

That's bad. I was planning on coming up for the ASCS races at Lamonte and LOS in June then hit XX on Sun. night before I went back home.

Been to LOS once, the first outlaw race they ran in 2005 that Shaffer won in the 6 car.

Sorry to hear this horrible news. The loss of ANY dirt track is a loss for all race fans. It's bad for the fans and the racers in fact.

I've heard some bad things about the operation, but no matter if they're true or not, it's STILL not a good thing to lose a facility.

Wishing the fans and the racers the best of luck in finding a new home.

We were thinking about a trek down there to see a new sprint car track this year. Is there a local message board where I can find out some more facts??

I am lucky enough to work at one of the best tracks
anywhere.

Paging LA or CMS for a weekly Friday night (Sprint) show!!! Eagle, what you want to know? US36 or Lakeside would be my recommendation for you.

They have sprint races? If so, what night?

Also, the winning MegaMillions #'s for Tuesday would be nice. wink

This is a shame. Although I have never been to this track I have heard Patrick & Tim Moore speak highly of this facility on several occasions. This seems to be becoming the norm for local tracks. We here in Illinois are constantly hearing the rumors about almost every track in the area. It is a shame to see them go and I feel for those spectators that loved them!

Question-I thought that the person who built LOS was someone who originally had their track "developed" and then built LOS with the proceeds. Is the track owned by someone other than the promotional group?

If so, who was the other promoter?

I believe you're talking about Howard Schrock. I think he built LOS after the old Capital Speedway in Holts Summit was sold for development. The Gundaker family from St. Charles bought LOS from him if I'm not mistaken. The Gundakers also own Tri-City Speedway in Granite City IL. I thought the Gundakers would be just what LOS needed to take it to the next level and I still think they would have been if it was their main focus. But it takes full time attention to make any track successful and the Gundakers couldn't give both Tri-City and LOS full time attention. With Tri-City being closer to home and in a better location to draw from they chose it. Hard to blame them for that. It's just unfortunate that such a nice track with huge potential is going to close. Hopefully the right person with a love for sprint car racing comes along soon and gets LOS headed where it could go.

Yes Mr Schrock built the track, then sold it

I personally think the Gundakers thought the track would profitt easy and have never really put anywhere near the work it takes, they have pissed off so many reliable and local business people. I have not seen any improvements, any investments, to make the place better. Not hard to do a search on missouri case net to find many examples.

an example, they put what was it $15K to win a first time midget event at tri city, but never increased purse for proven money making LOS 360 nationals

Bottom line I think most race tracks make extremely little profit when you consider the investment it takes, hard work for the promotors often earns them less than minimum wage, economy trends show no reason why this is going to get easier or better, so I do not blame them for calling it quits.

Thanks a lot. Hopefully things work out and we can make one of those; hopefully the WoO show.

By the way, you left out the winning Megamillions #'s. I'm gonna need those to be SURE I can come down. Smile

Theres also the WoO show at the Belleville Highbanks June 3rd, the day before Lakeside. The USAC Sprints are coming to Valley Speedway in Grain Valley MO August 14th. The ASCS Warriors will be there Sept. 9th. The Poweri Midgets will be at US36 and Valley this year as well. It's a shame about LOS and XX. I live near KC and have never been to either track and had plans to attend both tracks this year. Valley and LA are the only 2 weekly Sprint shows left in the area and stubbornly they both run Friday night. LA is winged 305's and Valley is open motors non-wing. We are hoping to run Valley with a 305.

I haven't heard about them not racing. If they have any interest, 360s on Sat night are wide open now. If they'd up their pay to a reasonable amount and possibly upgrade the lighting a tad they would have the pits full every week and the stands would follow. Just a thought.

I remember their Opening Night, what a beautiful facility it was. Heck, how many dirttracks were selling Margarittas in the bar, this place was?

This place needed to be marketed to the thousands of summer visitors in the area who could have had some variety from the typical Fri/Sat night bar scene, there is certainly enough people in the area from May to Sept.

Lots of nice memories from here, it would be a shame if that's all there's ever gonna be. Take It Easy....
